I think if it’s vibe-heavy without needing a lot of explicit storytelling in cutscenes then that helps. Less so if the gameplay just feels like it’s there to link the story scenes together

Something changed with me at some point where I started to struggle with most narrative-focused games. If I feel like the gameplay (I know this is a poorly-defined word) is just there to pin together the story then I tend to fall right off it.
That said it's not a hard and fast rule...
