Um actually it's spelt "morels"

Does the Harmful Digital Communications Act apply to Seymour's targeting of academics via social media? Perhaps - but lots of fishooks (sorry, friends)🧵 ##nzpol

Shorter Stats NZ: "People aren't filling out surveys because they don't trust us, so we'll go behind their backs to take their data without permission instead, and store it with a US company involved in a genocide. No, we haven't researched why trust has fallen, why do you ask?"

It's absolutely fucked (and yet totally unsurprising) that a non-white female is having to lead the charge on this. Where are all the men? Oh that's right, writing apology pieces for other men who've fucked up. Wish more people in our press would show some bloody courage

Using food to show where I grew up

For a lot of reasons, Substack should not be the go-to place for those seeking to build a newsletter audience. I hear good things about buttondown, I am on ghost myself. But re Substack’s problems & dangers, this analysis is pretty spot on IMO

We’ve all been there

Just been treated to a preview of the gorgeous queen sized quilt one of my colleagues made for another who is retiring after 40+ years. Everything in it has meaning relevant to her soil science expertise. Such gorgeous work #quilting

A Harvard study of IDF data finds that there are 377,000 people unaccounted for in Gaza. That estimate is six times the number of people normally cited as killed. Genocide. medium.com/@m4xim1l1an/...

I'm not going to dignify David Seymour with more attention, but I'm not sitting, standing or lying down for his ableist mental health slurs whenever he doesn't get his own way. I know you can't shame the shameless, or appeal to the decency of the indecent. But still.... #nzpol

today is the most amazing day

Chris Hipkins formally announces the Regulatory Standards Bill will be repealed by Labour within 100 days. Green, Labour and Te Pati Maori MPs have all been fighting hard on it - as have so many community and eminent leaders. What a team effort from all. #nzpol

In which RNZ fills most of the column with verbatim Seymour quotes *including* outright platforming the attacks he made on public figures, while giving zero right of reply to ANY of the people they say he targeted. This isn't even "both sides" reporting. What is going ON in NZ media??

land of the what home of the who

According to RNZ today there are 110,000 people in housing hardship (that does not mean just homeless) Stopping Kāinga Ora - Homes and Communities from developing housing was ideological and not based on facts nor best practice Remember Housing is a universal right, not a commodity

this absolutely outstanding Palladian pile is up for sale and you’re all gonna have to bear with me because this one gets a whole thread www.rightmove.co.uk/properties/1...

Listening to people fear monger about how if we have a more dense comp plan we’ll lose green space and tress. I implore everyone to think about what we can gain

I'm keenly reminded by recent events that Jared didn't solve the Middle East problems in 2018 as advertised, but he did get two billion bucks.

IT'S. NOT. A. BITTER. DISPUTE. It's a one-sided authoritarian assault on a private institution. What are we doing here, and what is journalism, anyway?

Image 1: David Seymour and ACT find this inappropriate and not a joke, despite it clearly being intended as a joke Image 2: David Seymour and ACT find this appropriate, and a joke, despite it being a concerted branded campaign against academic critics of his policy

The fact that extremely mainstreamed voices on the right are now doing this, which used to be the domain of dirty operators like Whale Oil, is utterly disgusting. ACT in particular have cultivated a mob of angry online followers just waiting for a target. And silence from the politics knowers.

I’ve opened this up for full public reading, listening and sharing after subscribers gave it more than 100 likes. Thanks for their support in making this sort of journalism available for the public. Unfortunately, it wouldn’t happen otherwise.

Come on, people. Have you no decency? Whose idea was it to glitter bomb ICE? ☠️ 😂

Look, I'm no Ardern acolyte, but there's no denying that she had the toughest session as PM since WW2 and got most of us through it alive. Luxon, Seymour, and Peters are just pissing on us and telling us how hard it is being in charge when it's raining.

Every single time the current government talks about RMA reform and that they're doing something to make it less dysfunctional, I really need media outlets to mention the fact that *this government chose to bring the RMA back into effect when it was already on its way out*

Complaints are beginning to roll in. Good. If nothing else, it proved Seymour is not fit to be deputy PM. www.thepress.co.nz/nz-news/3607...

Tory's right, everyone disturbed by this is right, it is authoritarian behaviour and needs to be stamped out from the very top.

1/5 While the international community moves to protect vulnerable workers, Minister van Velden moves to undermine their rights in NZ 🧵

This was said in the same year that the CIA overthrew a democratically elected government in Iran, installing the Shah Palevi, who so egregiously misruled Iran that Khomeni was able to pull off the Islamic Revolution in '79. Iranian election turnout runs to 72-78%.

Well put by @mmasnick.bsky.social. www.techdirt.com/2025/06/20/c...

Where all my political journos worrying about “civility” at now?

a ruthless predator, alligators will sometimes use jazz hands to lure musical theatre people to their deaths

ah yes, making yourselves sound like rapists will endear yourselves to the community who already doesn't fucking want you there. For 200 million a year in taxes that the govt will have to pay to clean up while a billion dollars goes overseas.

Oh Liam, wtaf are you talking about here with the upside to the recession thing? How can you get so much missionary zeal for self-flaggelation and woefully bad analysis into a single article? Today was already a really bad day before I read this. A quick look... [🧵1/n]
