My god, Trump admin has altered Hatch Act rules so that it is OK for federal employees to display campaign paraphenalia on the job -- but ONLY for the current President/VP, not for any challengers. www.nytimes.com/2025/04/25/u...

I have no words right now. This is crushing.

This just in… westernpriorities.org/2025/04/stat...

As someone who has worked with endangered species my whole career, I have recently been involved with a project that is attempting to use recovery plans to identify overlapping conservation actions for forest management and I’m APPALLED at the lack of specific actions identified in recovery plans…

As a biologist, I'm appalled at pride the White House takes in willful ignorance. In yesterday's executive order about NPR and PBS, their first example of "the trash that passes for `news' at NPR and PBS" is the statement that "banana slugs are hermaphrodites." But this is unequivocal fact.

Since the Trump admin continues to claim Mr. Abrego Garcia is a gang member, I thought I'd take the time to put together a timeline, based on all the documents filed in court, which lays out all the "evidence" the government has ever offered. As you'll find out, there's very little "there" there!

More in No, Other People: New poll: “America would be better off if more people worked in manufacturing.” • 80% of Americans agree • 20% disagree “I would be better off if I worked in a factory.” • 25% of Americans agree • 73% disagree • 2% currently work in a factory

On Mon 4/14 @ 4pm PT, I will have a special live session to discuss the rapidly unfolding, chaotic, & apparently intensifying actual & proposed cuts to NOAA & NASA that threaten to decimate weather & climate science & prediction in the U.S. See you then. youtube.com/live/mbt...

My 10 year old sister and I got Social Security payments after my father died from exposure to Agent Orange. It helped my widowed mom when the family lost his income. He paid into it his whole life. They even took it from his check while he was serving in Vietnam. Jeanine can go fuck herself.

The thing re: de-extinction I worry about most is undermining the public’s sense extinctions are serious, terrible, and to be avoided (“why save it now when we can de-extinct it later if we want?”) while in fact ALSO not meaningfully bringing extinct species back (it’s not really a dire wolf).

I’m so sick of these people.

1. Another Friday afternoon massacre of sorts: NIH just rescinded its Scientific Integrity Policy. h/t @lizborkowski.bsky.social

Diversity initiatives were meant to overcome the old patterns of nepotism, so I guess it makes sense that the enemies of diversity are big fans of nepotism.

This is bad: Immediate Measures to Inc American Mineral Prod Within 10 days the Sec of Int shall identify and provide..a list of all Fed lands known to hold mineral deposits and reserves. The Sec..shall prioritize mineral production and mining related purposes as the primary land uses in these areas

This is so evil that it defies understanding. A transplant surgeon on an H1B visa was deported, despite a court injunction. She had committed no crimes. This must stop. We must stand together to protect immigrants and visitors against state terrorism. www.providencejournal.com/story/news/l...

Told ya. They're going to privatize everything but still make you pay federal taxes so they don't have to. www.nbcnews.com/politics/dog...

Proud of what @wilsonornithsoc.bsky.social is doing to support ornithologists affected by the Trump administration's attack on science. Those suffering hardship related to the EOs, layoffs, etc. can get free membership and registration to the upcoming meeting here: tinyurl.com/vf34sh93

Anyone here has any experience with birdnetR and nsnsda Acoustics? I am running into so many issues and errors. Not sure what I’m doing wrong…

"What has NOAA ever done for me in #GreatLakes?" NOAA employees in the region help communities become better prepared for challenges like severe weather, coastal erosion, harmful algal blooms, and invasive species www.youtube.com/watch?v=1n6y...

SCOTUS ruled in the early ‘80s that all children in the U.S. have a right to education but 4 states are working on laws demanding proof of citizenship just for kids to go to school. Erosion of civil rights & liberties is everywhere, even in state boards of education. www.nbcnews.com/nightly-news...

The mass firing of both new hires and recently promoted senior staff within #NOAA, including mission-critical and life-saving roles at the National Weather Service (#NWS), is profoundly alarming. 1/11

The first measles death in the US in a decade -- the tragic, preventable death of a child whose parents chose not to protect them with vaccination -- should spark an immediate nation-wide campaign to ensure all children are protected against preventable diseases. Anything less is unconscionable.

Lady, I actually WANT my taxes to go to these federal employees who are doing good science and protecting federal lands. Go jump off a bridge, please.

Your regular reminder that the US air & water pollution laws passed in the 60s & 70s -- and the elaborate federal bureaucracy created to administer them -- constitute one of the most successful gov't interventions in history. WILDLY successful. The envy of the world.

BREAKING: Mexican President Sheinbaum argues that if cartels are deemed terrorist orgs, then the suppliers of weapons—over 74% of which come FROM the U.S.—should ALSO face accountability for enabling terrorism. As a result, Mexico is expanding its lawsuit targeting U.S gun manufacturers. 🇲🇽

well this is terrifying

if we didn’t act like complete fuck wads to the rest of the world, we wouldn’t need a giant military

Saw this in the office break room of NOAA NCEI today. I’m going to take this “feel good” energy from an anonymous person and forward it to all of you, especially those that work for or alongside NOAA. I’m proud of the work we do, and I’m grateful for all NOAA does. Thank you.
