That’s not true of all consulting companies and I think the transition of former feds to consulting is going to force change — and as a former fed to consultant, I can see it happening already.

I agree with you AND it’s a little harsh towards consulting companies. Also, the people who work in consulting is shifting and the responsibility we feel is not what you say.

It’s like “you need to recovery this species” and I’m like, “Ok, how?” And the plans are like,”🤷♀️”

What are some “real time tools” to monitor visibility that you suggest?

We used things like multi criteria decision analysis when we have multi-objective problems or Bayesian decision networks to evaluate tradeoffs of a decision — there’s a whole theory of how people SHOULD make decisions vs how they ACTUALLY make decisions. Fascinating stuff 🙃

Just applied for mine in March and haven’t heard back yet. I’ve been a sub for a loooooong time. Happy to help, if I can!

Like… any decisions. But more specific to your examples: like how to operate a wind facility such that it minimizes bat mortality and maximizes power generation. Or what management alternatives can we use given our limited resources to maximize survival of a federally protected species.

Have you cover decision science? I work as a decision analyst for conservation decision making. It’s a fascinating field.

Yep. I like it too. I like seeing it in applications and I liked using it when I was applying. And anyone who doesn’t like it sounds like a huge grump — ECRs are trying and doing their best. Give them some credit.

I quit road riding for this reason… In a better world, this wouldn’t be a problem - as you’ve said.
And…Why not just stop at the 4-way stop and let them pass? If someone’s being an asshole, just let them.

It’s like space. They feel like if you can’t see it, you can destroy it. It breaks my heart knowing how much garbage is up there orbiting us every day.

I second that it smells like crayons. My old and current Volvos both have “the smell.”
