My 11yo asked why he has to go to a dr visit for a vaccination (DTAP). I let him know about the benefits of being vaccinated/boosted for those particular illness and that, FOR NOW, it’s a state standard to go into the 7th grade. Of course we live in SC so I can imagine how that may change. Ugh.

So at this point they’re handing him ridiculous EOs like plastic straws and Red White and Blueland the way you’d give toddlers coloring sheets to make them feel like they’re also doing “big boy work” right? While the real dismantling happens around him.

Do the brains of the morally bankrupt simply not have certain neurons firing or have/lack a certain chemical or something that allows them to sleep without thinking about the consequences of their actions? Is lack of empathy physiological?

Well said, Pete Buttigieg

Prof. @angelarasmussen.bsky.social voices cogent and frank concerns about what RFK Jr's nomination to HHS Secretary and the other nominations to health-related positions in the cabinet would mean for the state of health in the US. I find it exceedingly hard to disagree with anything she says here.

RFK Jr.: Medicaid is not working. Fact check: 83% of Medicaid enrollees rate the overall performance of Medicaid positively, and Medicaid enrollees report fewer cost-related problems relative to those with Marketplace coverage and ESI.

It’s certainly the architects of Project 2025 who have drafted all these EOs and are placing them rapidly on the desk to be signed. Trump is an idiot tool being used for a sharpie signature. He’s too dumb and senile to craft this flurry of orders to sow this chaos.

Donald Trump has announced that the US will exit the World Health Organization and suspend all foreign aid for three months, in a move that will leave critical humanitarian work in jeopardy and threaten the global fight against infectious diseases.

Hi, ASL interpreter of 30 yrs & a person w/ Deaf family here. In response to the anti-ASL horseshit going around: ASL and English are not the same language. ASL has no written form. Reading English subs is not = to seeing ASL & many Deaf ppl need sign to fully understand info.

My New Year’s Resolution. What’s yours?

It also makes it harder for them to ban books.

A new pilot program in Los Angeles County will cancel medical debt for over 150,000 people. This program will begin by eliminating $500 million in debt using just $5 million. The county ultimately aims to cancel $2 billion in medical debt for residents. abc7.com/post/los-ang...

"One of the great tragedies of mankind is that morality has been hijacked by religion. So now people assume that religion and morality have a necessary connection. But the basis of morality is really very simple and doesn't require religion at all." Arthur C. Clarke

Who here agrees?

Hey all - so I’m disillusioned with working for a healthcare tech company that essentially helps payers maximize profits. So if you have a job opening and could use someone with 22+ yrs experience in the healthcare industry with masters in both health admin and policy/law - hit me up!!

Thou shalt not kill' also means 'thou shalt not let profit margins decide who lives and who dies.'

I’m in the healthcare industry working for a tech company that makes SaaS largely used by insurance companies. Over on LinkedIn folks in my field are really bending over backwards to say payer CEOs deserve their riches, care about “the people,” and aren’t involved in denials.

Sometimes the combination of arrogance and ignorance is breathtaking. Yes, US health care has high admin costs; that's because it relies so much on private insurers. Govt-run health insurance has much lower overhead

Saw some pearl-clutching about "dehumanizing" because of an angry post about health insurers. Here's some real dehumanizing: UnitedHealthcare uses algorithmic methods to thwart access to mental healthcare. It's been found illegal in three states, but they keep using it everywhere else.

Assassin of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson wrote "deny", "defend" and "depose" on bullet casings.

So I decided to start looking at other jobs today and actually applied for a couple. If you’re looking for someone with 22 years of experience in the administrative/consulting/sales side of healthcare and healthcare tech, and are focused on the ethical side of things including SDoH and VBC - hmu

What did I think the movie Baby Driver was about? Not this apparently. But it’s good and I’m enjoying it.
