My local library with butterfly garden is my favorite place in the city. I cannot afford to buy books, and I love them dearly, so I borrow gratefully.🦋📖❤️
Who bans books? Which books are banned? I can understand that primitive, uncivilised prudish, religion ridden America would do this, but those in charge are Philistines and the world knows this.
But not the UK.
From my earliest memories...the scent, the visuals, and the sense of 'awe'. I go to my local library, but since April have been volunteering at one of our downtown community centres in the library!! It is a wonderful opportunity to speak to people seeking certain authors or subject matters! Love it!
When I recently moved from one state to another I spent day one doing: Driver's License, car registration, voter registration and signing up at my new Library. A full but satisfying day.
I don’t use my public library because homeless people shoot up outside the entrance. They are having sex in the alley, tweaking, and sometimes wielding knives.
Lol, Gather all your friends and read fun things like "A clockwork orange", "The Lion, The Witch, and the Wardrobe" "To Kill a Mockingbird" and other Band books that require more than one reader to share it.
I was an associate librarian for 10 years in a middle school. Best job I ever had. Within the last 5 years our city closed all the public school libraries. I am so heartbroken.
The best place in the world for me. I had no childhood to speak of, and I escaped from my life to different lands, faced terrible danger and sometimes died so that freedom was saved. I lived lies and went to countries I'd never heard of, rescued fair maidens from tyrannical forces, saved the day.
OMG! My public library is awesome! Hoopla and Libby apps provide so much in audio books and music downloads. Kanopy for streaming. Then, there's good old fashioned BOOKS! Shout out to the Daniel Boone Regional Library!
My boyfriends cousin is a librarian. We go to read books that I'm not sure I'll like before I commit to buying it. That or we read comics since we don't really collect but love to read them. Saves me money. Plus back when I was in college I went to study in silence instead of the cafeteria.
Just because it is a physical library, doesn't mean there isn't a virtual Library, too. Check out digital & audio books. And look at borrowing music. All this can be done with a Library card.
Our libraries are awesome here. They have family game nights & family board games you can check out. Friends of the Library free table where people bring things they'd normally bring to goodwill, and people can just take them. Leave a puzzle/take a puzzle exchange. Story hour. So much!
I'm helping keep my library's circulation stats in the stratosphere. I would never locate anywhere that did not have a good, well-supported library system. A good library reflects a community of good citizens.
I haven't been to the university library for 10 years or so unfortunately. I haven't been to the public library for probably 25 years. By the time I was 14 I had read every book in the Clovis public library except War and Peace. I made it a 3rd of the way through and never finished it. 😆
Hard line MAGAs don't need libraries.
Lies, deceit, and conspiracy theories don't require depth of knowledge or thinking.
They just listen to cronies on tv or radio and repeat their lies.....no books required.
I admit I don’t go in the winter as I do not drive in snow/ice, but March-Oct. I’m in there constantly. Love to check out my library’s online selection too. 🩷 📚
if they're banning books, its meaning that they're making us more stupid and ignorant so we vote for the bad other than the good, plus thats just wrong to ban books, books are needed in life, and without them, we would be very, very dumb and we wouldn't exist for a very long time.
You see, now I remember a time before computers, I did say I was old, that I spent hours at the library. I have been collecting the banned books that used to be required reading. I weep for this next generation.
I love our county library system ❤️. It is also part of two on-line lending systems. They also sponsor ongoing book sales which we support with purchases as well as donations for future sales.
In the UK (where I am) though all recent governments have led to closure of libraries, which is sacrilegious, my home city still has three that are open. They allow access to free internet and access to newspapers for job hunting. At a minimal extra cost you can even write CVs to help in job hunting
I use my library card every month! I get books through my Libby library app and listen to audiobooks. I also read on my laptop at home. It’s free, easy to use and so convenient. I love the library! ❤️📚❤️
Please borrow from us as well. We appreciate the donations, but circulation and usage is what we report on every year to local, state and federal bodies. Unfortunately, they don't care what is given to us even if we do. I know this because I am the one doing the reporting and defending at mine.
My neighborhood in Pittsburgh protested when our neighborhood library was going to be closed. We got to keep it and have a new building built. Love our library.
Aww,absolutely adorable bless you, I hope you're having a lovely Winter Solstice and warmest wishes for Yule, may you be blessed with love and light, peace, hope and happiness to you blessed be ❤️ 🧚♀️❄️🌙😘...1
Uhm.. wouldn't getting books off paper and into electronic form and providing access from as many countries as possible be THE most effective way to prevent book banning?
I mean if you absolutely MUST have it in paper... you can always print it out.
The Roblox Iowa State Government will always strive to ensure libraries are well-used and well-respected by all. Without free library wifi we wouldn't have the nearly three and half thousand members we have today!
In Finland, libraries are quite a lot more than just books. The Helsinki main library has recording studios, video haming rooms and 3D printers for anyone to use.
We need libraries. How else can we introduce kids to the transgender lifestyle? Libraries are the first step to genital mutilation. Libraries are needed
That’s funny. I served on our town’s library board for 4 years. We managed to do well…then the Covid shutdowns ruined us. Libraries, like bookstores have suffered due to the internet and yes, Amazon. Libraries are assets to the community, but unless more actually utilize them, they will go away.
With virtually every book, periodical and newspaper available in peoples’ living rooms. few will make the trek to the library. Libraries have peaked and will be gone (as we know them) within a generation.
I strongly disagree with you on this. My regional library system of multiple libraries serving our communities is thriving. Parking lots are usually full, lots of people passing through the doors daily. No lack of patrons of all ages. Vibrant programs covering wide ranging topics abound
I agree vehemently with you Susana. Our libraries are vibrant busy hubs, used by many different groups in the community. My kids both study there and can barely get a seat.
The libraries are evolving and now provide a myriad of community services that are well used by many.
Some of these are behind a paywall. For those who don't have a lot of money to spend, libraries are lifesavers. Free resources to let the imagination soar!
I can download an audiobook on my phone, listen to it on my way to work and while im at work. Why would I take precious time off my schedule to go to a library?
You can download an audiobook for free from your library. That’s my point. They have evolved to provide a service that satisfies the way many users want to consume literature.
I LOVE libraries. I would NEVER agree to close any library. People should be able to read anything they want & it should be free. There’s only one reason for book banning—to keep us ignorant. Ask yourself why government would want us to be ignorant.
Since you've posted this in numerous replies here... you seem to be ignorant about public library services. In the US almost all of them offer downloaded books online including audio books.
It's also interesting that because you don't value something you have no sympathy for it. Sad really.
No i value it. It just America, i personally don't have the limited time as a family man does, but still my time is limited, and here in America everything is done on a rush, i really wish i had more time to go to a library, but even when i do find time i still choose not to go. Kids don't either 😔
They’re especially important for those of us with young children, either as a place to go be with members of the community and as a resource for teaching literacy and about the world.
They’re probably one of the best cheap accesses to community services, connections and even equipment (like CNC mills and sticker machines) as well, at least in my case!
What's books teaches you no cell phone or laptop can so the same
main thing you will concrete on book only not like cell phones every second you will have a message
You can be sure. The book banners are now trying to get control of our public library on the pretext that there are books that frankly discuss LGBTQ issues in the teen section.

All media make mistakes. Legitimate media owns up to it and publishes a correction. Crazy bloggers and the ones who go along with Vance's Sometimes you have to lie ethos never do.
I have seen, among many, CBS,NBC, the New York Times, U.S. News and World Report, The Republic. . .
There are no libraries left in my city. The last public library we had was closed down two years ago and converted into a Permanent Voter Registration Board. To make matters worse, the collection that Puerto Rican historian Fernando Picó had donated to our city was trashed.
I love libraries. Best memories going to the library with Mom EVERY 2 weeks. She never censored what I read or even wanted to see the books.
I raised my kids the same way.
Besides, for young families- it is the best free endless. entertainment
IN A DICTATORSHIP NO BOOKS OR THINKING THE PRESIDENT WANTS YOU TO BELIEVE HIS LIES! MAGA SAID VACCINS IS BAD FOR YOU WHY?TRUMP HAD IT OK FOR HIM NOT FOR YOU WEIRD NO?TRUMP IS A CRIMINAL HE WANTS YOU TO STAND UP FOR HIM like KIMJONG UN AN UNEDUCATED UNCOUTH LIAR WANTS TO BE TREATED LIKE GOD CRAZY!😡😈
Libraries are great, not just for borrowing books, movies, and CDs. Most of them also host local groups and have events and classes. They're an invaluable community resource.
This is my local library . Adult, children’s , teen library . Music library , Reference library and cofffee shop upstairs meeting rooms. Please open photograph.
Promote the FACT that libraries require funding to remain relevant. Promote the fact that libraries must be allowed to focus on democratizing the access to information - their purpose for millennia. Repurposing them as care centers for the chronically unhoused is a criminal act against both parties.
Unfortunately, we are banning books in America, just not as a whole - yet. Books have been removed from libraries throughout the country due to threats of criminal prosecution and/or budget cuts. Author @johngreensbluesky.bsky.social helped us battle attempts in Indiana.

Incredibly talented librarians 💕
But not the UK.
One can get lost in a good book for hours and transport themselves to another world.
Support reading and support books.
Lies, deceit, and conspiracy theories don't require depth of knowledge or thinking.

I get six free books downloaded on my tablet each month, lots of audiobooks and podcasts too if you’re into those things.
Were you bought and paid for by Amazon?
The libraries are evolving and now provide a myriad of community services that are well used by many.
It's also interesting that because you don't value something you have no sympathy for it. Sad really.
Hence the idea of getting rid of libraries!

Anyways. Love libraries, use 'em all the time. When they work well, they're great.

Fortunately, we're not actually banning books in America.
