Not only *appropriate*-- a massive *improvement*, in my book. Plus it cut out that part about rockets and bombs. That part always bothered me; it's inappropriate for a national anthem. Save the pyrotechnic imagery for 4th of July.
Not the holiday, I mean. The other Soundgarden song.

They didn't recognize him at first. He had shaved his head and gained weight, so he looked nothing like the Syd they knew.
It was a pretty harrowing experience for the band.

🟪: Hey Amy! I hope we're not late... I had a little trouble remembering the proper mouse transformation spell... We haven't used it since we spent a day as Alice's maids. ^^;;
👺: Oh, hey, cool! You booked a live DJ! And you put out a cheese platter!

And then, because Tom Cruise's character was the sole focal point of the franchise from that point forward, each subsequent entry got further and further disconnected from the original series. And I suspect John Woo and J.J. Abrams both had a hand in setting it on that trajectory.

The original one back in 1996 (God, that long ago? I SAW that one in the theater...) was technically adapted from the TV series. But, they decided the film needed a shocking twist. So they made Jim Phelps the villain, and Peter Graves wanted nothing to do with that. Thus, we got Jon Voight instead.

As it happens, I have a few of my own to share~ (Not just the inflatable kind, either, but dollies of all types!)

And if you think artists are just supposed to draw EVERYTHING on the fly-- poses, props, things we've never drawn before-- and get it 100% accurate... you've got a phony perception of our capabilities. Like, man, I'm skilled with paint, but my brain ain't a freakin' "everything" database. I'm human.

Even with a photo found online... it's still the same skillset. It's still figuring out the composition, blocking out basic shapes, paying attention to shadows and textures, etc. It's a way of ensuring accuracy. There's a reason animators work from reference video of motion and acting ALL THE TIME.

Like... I *really* honestly don't get the stigma toward artists using references. One of the primary tools an artist has at their disposal is observation. It's not cheating, it's literally doing what formally educated artists are trained to do, using our eyes, nude models and still life objects.

The good news is, you don't need an actual partner for that, Thea. You've got lots of friends who are more than happy to turn you into a pretty statue, or a useful mannequin, or a sexy love doll.
And I'm one of them~

Note: Normally, I would be posting this on FurAffinity as well. But as I'm sure most of you know, FA is still in read-only mode at this time, following a major outage. So, until that changes, this new piece is exclusively featured right here on BlueSky, and I'll be putting it on FA as soon as I can.

"How do I feel? What do I say? In the end it all goes away!"
As long as we're on the topic of Fred's taste in bands, though... how does Fred feel about Cake?

"Eh, eh... two what? What was that word?"
"What word?"
"Two what?"
"What?"
"Did you say 'yutes'?"
"Yeah, two yutes."
"What is a yute?"
"Oh, excuse me, Your Honor. Two YOUTHS."

That's "My Cousin Vinny", a 1992 comedy starring Joe Pesci, Fred Gwynne (in his final role), Ralph Macchio, and an amazing performance from Marisa Tomei. In addition to being hilarious, it is often shown to law students because of the accuracy in its depiction of aspects of courtroom procedure.

I didn't realize you lived in Florida, Agent.
You have my sincere sympathies. I used to live in the Tampa Bay area.

Holy shit. It actually works!
I am ABSOLUTELY going to start using the aphorism "don't juggle pears when you've got oranges" in this context from now on.

Awww, the sweet little huggable plushy bun is pretending to be villainous again, and thinks having more people who know how cute and lovely and wonderful it is qualifies as an "evil plan"! That's so adorable! ^_^

Mini, you have an entire Twitch chat and Discord server full of people who think you are cool and exciting. And that includes me. 💜
I mean, you play video games for a living! What's cooler than that? And every single night you stream, I'm excited to watch.

This comic was always one of my favorites of yours, Dorin. It was actually what inspired me to do my infamous Christmas TF rampage back in 2019, when I went around transforming all of my Duel Club friends. ^_^

My headcanon is that after Lady Mysz gave Caterina, Dawn and Mona their initial assignments, she spent the entire rest of the one day that they were her mouse maids "entertaining" herself in a similar fashion with each of them, one by one.
It explains why their dress code didn't include panties.

Once I have four on the list, I will shutter the queue until they are finished.
If you don't get a spot in the first four, don't get discouraged! There's a decent chance I'll be doing another queue before too long, so long as there's enough interest in it.

7. Last year, HEALTH released a cover of Deftones' "Be Quiet and Drive" as a single... and it is an excellent version. I feel like HEALTH are a new wave of industrial metal, blending old NIN and Ministry heaviness with fresh EDM, synthwave, and dream pop elements.

6. The Mars Volta has had some phenomenal Latin-infused prog over the past 20+ years. "Meccamputechture", though, just has a special place in my heart. The groove on this one, plus the voodoo/occult vibe of the lyrics, really hooked me.
From Amputechture (2006):

5. "Tightly Wound" by The Pineapple Thief, from the album Tightly Unwound (2008). This band was a really good discovery-- progressive rock with a mellower aesthetic. In my view, their sound on this album sort of falls somewhere between Porcupine Tree and Radiohead.

4. Lunatic Soul is a project from Polish prog musician Mariusz Duda. I'll post something from his primary band Riverside later, but for now... I LOVE the dark atmosphere of Lunatic Soul's "Gutter", from the album Walking on a Flashlight Beam (2014):

3. In addition to prog, I love industrial, too. Nine Inch Nails' The Fragile (1999) is another one of my favorite albums of all time. While Trent has composed a decent number of harder-edged rock tracks, I love "Even Deeper" for its chill, resigned vibe.

2. Gotta have some Tool in here too. I've been a fan for over 20 years.
"Rosetta Stoned" is my highlight from 10,000 Days (2006). If you're not familiar, it's the ramblings of a guy on LSD, convinced that he encountered aliens in the Nevada desert.

1. Well, my main jam is prog rock, so I hope you all are prepared for some long runtimes on songs.
Let's start with a little Porcupine Tree. My personal favorite of theirs is "Russia on Ice", from their 2000 album Lightbulb Sun:
