The older I get, the more I realize I have many of the same interests as I did in my younger years, except now I just don’t give a shit about the opinions of others.
Don’t mind me, I’ll just be over here enjoying $thing while loud children scream at each other for stupid reasons.

As someone who has lived in the western half of the US her entire life, that’s almost inconceivable to me.
If the Bay Area had that kind of rail… impossible dreams.

Long story short: it works fine, and has for a long time. Trolleybuses and the cable cars cover the surface of the steepest hills for the most part, with BART underground within the city. MUNI light rail shadows it under Market St, with its own tunnels to connect the eastern/western halves of SF.

The Twin Peaks tunnel runs under the most elevated part of SF, and it opened in 1918. North of it, the Sunset Tunnel came in 1928. BART has been running underground through the city and across the bay since 1974. After Loma Prieta, it closed just long enough for inspections, but came out unscathed.

this is the same outlet that published a fucking white nationalist* last month
*self-described as a "Western" nationalist, as if that hides the intent

It legit needs to be underground, even if using the same LRVs Muni operates on other lines. Between the 38/38R, weekday ridership is > 40k according to MUNI, more than the busiest existing light rail line (N Judah). A full-blown metro would be ideal, but sticking with buses just isn't cutting it.

Don't get me wrong—I love transit here and use it almost every day. Compared to Utah/SoCal where I lived before, it's not even a contest in terms of quality and usability. My sentiments stem from how much better things *could* be.

SF is out here running articulated buses at max capacity every few mins down Geary instead of building a goddamn subway like they should have a few decades ago. This city is good by *American* standards of transit, a bar so low it’s in hell’s fucking basement.
