So am I reading this court decision correctly? We now have 50 micronations with their own laws interpreting the U.S. Constitution wholly separate from one another? But there's one guy with private law enforcement who is immune from all punishment who can do whatever he wants in those 50 states?

#BREAKING: Over a (sharp) public dissent from the three Democratic appointees, #SCOTUS clears the way for the Trump administration to remove migrants to third countries *without* giving them an additional opportunity to contest whether they face persecution or other forms of mistreatment there:

This is a horrifying ruling that shows a disdain for basic human rights principles — made all the more unconscionable by the fact that the Republican appointees did so with no reasoning and on the shadow docket.

Personally I am unfamiliar with any legitimate activity that requires switching license plates, which by the way is illegal.

We (lawyers, former govt officials, former military) were engaged in role playing exercises prior to 2nd Trump inauguration of exactly this situation in California. This was so predictable, if not actually expected/planned. The Trump Administration is most dangerous we have seen in our history.

The administration gets closer to using the military to crush civilian dissent. Expect deaths, disappearances, and lawless detentions.

It is vital that our state bars hold lawyers accountable when they violate their ethical obligations ... particularly, when those lawyers serve in key positions of importance and authority.

Both unprecedented and unprincipled. That is your legacy, Mr. Chief Justice.

With credit to Kottke.org, the source of many an exceptional take, this is worth sharing:

I said it would get worse very quickly. By tomorrow we will have completed the most dangerous & frightening 24 hours thus far of Trump 2.0. Just to name a few: 1. Defiance of a court order by sending migrants to Sudan without due process (despite clear DP decision SCOTUS) & Dist. CT. order.

Great analysis!

BREAKING: With Andor coming to an end, experts warn America's strategic supply of beautiful severe women who should be on my television a lot has dropped to dangerously low levels

Angry judge roasts Biglaw lawyers for their "collective debacle" filing a brief where "~9 of the 27 legal citations in the 10-page brief were incorrect in some way" due to Generative AI digitalcommons.law.scu.edu/cgi/viewcont... Lawyers will pay $31k for their sloppiness 🤖😵

It’s incredible that the President of the United States is openly flirting with suspending Habeas Corpus, disappearing people left and right, arresting judges and politicians, accepting ludicrous bribes from foreign countries, and people are still trying to normalize this shit.

Maddening! Trump and his allies continue their work to destroy America in ways large and small!

Me demanding new reports of F/A-18s falling into the Red Sea

One of the things I am in awe of about Andor is that it completely avoids any narrative of glory. It’s depicting revolution as traumatic, painful, full of impossible decisions, and loss. Doing it for glory is guaranteed failure. The cost is too high for glory to sustain it long enough to win.

Chicago is the best city in America and the Vatican knows it.

All the best popes have been born in Chicago. It's just a fact.

One great thing about ANDOR is all the soy Republicans who love to complain about Star Wars being too woke have absolutely nothing to say about this show because it is leagues above their mental pay grade. They do not have the vocabulary to engage with any of the points it makes

Not to be too pro technocrat, but it is astounding how much this country depended on the selflessness of like a few hundred thousand highly educated public servants who, for peanuts, made sure our food and medicine and environment etc were safe. And in return these servants were demonized.

🆘 The White House terminated the entire staff of the State Dept.'s Historical Advisory Committee this evening. This threatens the integrity of the declassification of foreign policy records, the objectivity of our historical accounts, and undermines current and future policy makers.

I'm sorry but if you don't have enough fully functional neurons firing in your brain to have seen this coming from the beginning, I refuse to believe you can be trusted with any task or objective that requires more than a third-grade intellect. www.nytimes.com/2025/05/06/w...

A great piece, sourced on the always-great Kottke.org:

For all those who might need some additional motivation as they come back to work this week after an Easter-ANZAC break ... youtu.be/y6wLcx7AkRM?...

my endorsement for any democratic presidential candidate who promises to send the entire DOGE team to prison

Personally, I think it should be front page news for at least a month if a sitting US President is using falsified evidence to try and deny due process to a man who has committed no crime, but that’s just me

Happy 250th Anniversary of Lexington and Concord from the Supreme Court of the United States

this is such good news. i think it is also an opportunity for democrats to state forthrightly that when they win power again everyone responsible for this crime will be held accountable to the fullest extent of the law and will face the american people to answer for their lawlessness

Serious question: Given how jelly-kneed these law firms have shown themselves to be in their deals with Trump, why would you want them to represent you in a case that involves the US government, or another well-resourced adversary? www.nytimes.com/2025/04/16/u...

So looking forward to this. Krennic is, indeed, the villain we deserve in these times.

Marco Rubio just announced 10 more people were sent to be imprisoned in CECOT. They were flown there from Gitmo to be imprisoned potentially for life based not on any crime for which they were convicted, but on unproven allegations of gang membership with no due process. This is not lawful.

Kirkland & Ellis, Allen Overy Shearman Sterling, Simpson Thatcher, and Latham & Watkins should be viewed as administration shills now. It would be a mistake to engage them in any matter in which your interests and positions are not congruent with this administration’s.
