Definitely cool to read about it from the perspective of someone who loves that record, but yeah, still not for me.

Yeah, I really wanted to love it, but just couldn’t. They were my absolute favourite band, so it broke my heart a little. Saw them twice on the accompanying tour, and it was so much aimless jamming, with Corin looking like she’d rather be anywhere else.

Companion video, discussing the FYCs' unique blend of classic and cutting edge pop elements and the how the UK's vital and hugely influential roots reggae scene emerged from desperate times, as well as sharing some recording and arranging insights! youtu.be/k1SwenW_Veg?...

Yes, I can see it now, and it’s CINEMA!

True. Mind you, if it signed with the fed, they’d probably put it straight into developmental, and rename it something like Peaks Cragggler

It sounds very ‘boy band’ to me, like they didn’t even try to come up with one of their bullshit ‘tough guy’ names. Whatever happened to Jett Crunko? Junxx Crumpp? Come on, fed!

I thinks it’s actually an ocarina, which seems even funnier somehow.

I LOVED this show!

I think Van Halen’s slightly different in that they were often doing more of a soul/doo-wop inspired thing, with Mike and Ed responding to DLR’s lead lines in two part harmony, but they did occasionally drop into true 3-part harmony (Feel Your Love Tonight does so on the last line, for instance)

Yes! Realising I’ve made a mistake can ruin my day, so when it happens, I try to distance myself from it and take myself through a mental checklist: Does this mistake actually affect anything? How can I remedy it? What can I learn from it? Normally this calms me down and I can get on with my day.

Deffo. I think AEW should leave straight romance angles to the Fed anyway, and lean into being as queer as possible - recent Toni and Hangman shenanigans show that it’s a winning tactic!

That’s surely the only way it could’ve made sense, right? Saraya and Matt united by their disapproval of Ruby and Ang’s relationship, find themselves inextricably drawn to one another. It would likely have sucked, although kayfabe Daddy Magic > real-life Ronnie Radke relationship-wise, any day.

This is grim, I guess if people keep showing up to boo her rather than just deciding not to watch the company that platforms the racist, they’re going to do this. Good old capitalism.

He’s got no aura, but you can’t expect an outlaw mud show like
the Catholic Church to know how to create a superstar, I guess.

Who could have possibly anticipated that Labour abandoning the last vestiges of any socialist principles and following Farage into a right-wing cesspool would backfire on them? Not Starmer, apparently…

I understand the need to name stuff, but, to me, pop (as in big, gaudy, mainstream pop) has always just been ‘pop’. It’s the hundreds of smaller sub-genres that feed into it that need the names.

Companion video, discussing the new wave and indie-pop influences that helped Nirvana to stand our from the grunge crowd, Devo's incredible 50+ year career, and the recording/arranging techniques I used to try to transform a grunge anthem into a jerky new wave bop! #MusicSky youtu.be/WxtD7vVLtNk?...

The Turtles were terrific, weren’t they? That ‘Battle of the Bands’ LP still blows my mind. Also, are you familiar with this Turtle-related garage-pop banger, penned by Kayla and his partner? It’s a gem. youtu.be/bu1B0UK0ldA?...

Yeah, mine too. One of the first punk bands I got into, and my old band played a bunch of shows with them, back in the early 2000s. Love ‘em!

This is epic! Awesome stuff. Yeah, wrote a couple of books in the same series - one on The Damned and one on VH. The VH one is in the official Van Halen store, but I don’t think anyone’s buying it from there, as they’re charging twice as much as everyone else! www.vanhalenstore.com

That’s true. I think I just get an extra bleak picture from being in a few Van Halen fan groups (I wrote a book about them, so joined to try to promote it), and it seems like everyone there is constantly enthusing over AI dreck. Nice to know it’s not universal!

Yeah, I totally get that. At the moment, I’m still enjoying the challenge of trying to learn how to play, arrange and produce in a different style every week, but once it stops being fun, I’ll be out!

Yeah, incredible player, great high harmonies, cool raspy lead voice for an occasional bit of variety, and those horn arrangements too!
