Even if she was a medical doctor, doctors aren't omniscient beings. A good doctor will say "I don't know what that symptom is, so I'll send you to a soecialist who can find out."

Know what? That is fair, and if it works, I'm all for it.

I'm weighing one black person having a wedding against the much larger number of black voices I am hearing right now. There's no such thing as 100% agreement. Just like my own statements disprove nothing about parts of the US whitewashing our history.

I don't see your point in the idea that a black person had a wedding at a plantation isn't really a point, especially in response to my point that the US tries to ignore the history of plantation houses as sites of oppression. Unless I am missing something - could you please clarify?

And your point?

They are not tied to ongoing cruelties, nor does anyone try to ignore that they are sites of cruelty. When we talk about castles, we talk about dungeons. When we talk about Aztecs, we talk about sacrifices. When we talk about plantation houses, some people talk about weddings.

No one is trying to erase the history that the plantations existed. They are erasing the cruelties of slavery. Maybe that part will be more visible if we don't have the distraction of the pretty house and fine china.

UK, why are you copying the US's homework when you know we wrote down the wrong answers?

He posted it because he knows he's losing control of the narrative, and deflecting to other topics is not working. We saw this in his first term too during COVID.

To me this post says 45 is scared that he is losing ground fast. They always act most angry when they are most afraid.

OK, yeah, I haven't read that one, and I remember now that I heard some of the ones set outside Ankh-Mopork had problems.

Any books in particular that aged badly? I haven't read all of his books, but I want to check partly to check myself to see if I've missed anything.

I recommend Terry Pratchett - his stories have all of the magic and humor and none of the bigotry. If you want a child-friendly book, there's The Amazing Maurice and his Educated Rodents.

From US, sending sympathy and solidarity. It's a step back, but you're still ahead of where you were even a decade ago.

What surprises me is how many different reasons Anne Frank would not be safe.
