I’m not in anything like your situation, but I routinely have qualms about spending significant amounts of money on myself, and found the argument of how large a fraction of wellbeing certain purchases can make better - for me, glasses, pillow, mattress, electric bicycle - convincing. Go for it!

Awwwww! I remember that picture (or a similar one)! I also remember the picture of Percy-to-be hanging across a branch and looking really, really bedraggled and forlorn. Did you ever find out anything about where she came from? Or just a stray/daughter-of-stray?

Ich würde mir ja ganz generell wünschen, dass bei Sätzen wie "Vielen, die damals zweifelten, wird seither unterstellt, sie lehnten die Wissenschaft generell ab" redaktionell eingegriffen wird mit: viel zu vage jür einen ernsthaften journalistischen Text, bitte konkrete Beispiele.
