Thank you, bear.

After you have enough money, power is all that’s left for some people. What is your answer though?

Not sure that I’ve fully levitated, but I have felt joy when opening mail, unlike any other mail-related openings, because of @theonion.com

Your episodes on ICHH are the primary way I learned about the border situation and the deterrence policy.

Seems like the main downside is that if someone gets in close then the operator / crew have limited options.

I like how they protected the hydraulic lines.

You run a big tent.

I appreciate your commitment to the concept and the Ø character.

Your job is to protect the ocean, not further enrich the already rich.

If my currency conversion is accurate, this article says that it’ll take about $24K USD to make a bamboo/tree based bridge that will support ped and very light vehicle traffic. This seems like an astonishing value, a rounding error for rich Americans doing philanthropy.

This is some Curtis Yarvin shit. Sounds like science but is just a fancy excuse to be evil.

This is how it looks from my world as well. Engineers that don’t use the best tools will eventually be outcompeted by those that do.

50 percent of the US think that the comet in Don’t Look Up represents wokeness.

There is huge evidence that it works. I use it every day. Ask any software engineer who has used it to write code. It works really well. Now is it a good business? So far no.

Also, Matty? Why add that layer.

Their findings match my own experience so far working at a large software company.

They also rely on a steady stream of government grants to fund research, most of which is now gone.

It seems like they intentionally edited together the jam clearing like they wanted people to see how good at clearing jams they are.

Yeah fair enough. That’s why it’s hard. In modern life we don’t actually need relatively stronger and larger human bodies because machines etc. I think there’s still a positive path here for men, but it’s going to take talking about why masculinity is good to get there.
comment in response to post
I see what you mean and thanks for your thoughtful reply. It can’t be dogmatic or prescriptive. It has to tap in to something that young men identify with. I like @profgalloway.com ‘s ideas here: protect people, help them, generate more than you consume. Purposeful and feels deeply good.
comment in response to post
Yeah I don’t even like to say this positive masculinity idea out loud most of the time because it just makes everybody even madder. But it’s where we need to go.
comment in response to post
Not saying it’s easy, but I do think this is seriously engaging with the problem. There are good and healthy aspects about men and masculinity. Mostly what young men hear from liberals is how they are bad. What is your positive message to young men about why masculinity is good?
comment in response to post
I’ll allow it.

If we don’t offer something aspirational, they have Tate and Rogan by default. There is a good version of masculinity, and we should talk about it. Celebrate it.
comment in response to post
We liberals are really good at pointing out bad behaviors but pretty shit at putting forward a positive and healthy version of masculinity.

What sort of twisted logic do they use to say you aren’t allowed to be critical of DOGE?
comment in response to post
Agreed. Helping people is basic human decency.

These are great and exhaustively enumerated points but I still prefer blow.

Of course you did. But you mentioned games explicitly and included a link about a game. Anyway I’m pointing out that this growth mentality goes way beyond big tech like Google. It’s the default expectation for small startups as well.
comment in response to post
Trying to agree with you here.
comment in response to post
Sadly it’s not just games. Extreme growth mandates have infected most other software as well, especially if you’ve taken VC.
comment in response to post
Someone should do this.

Everyone here is sad and on edge because the world is upside down and the US might be over soon, but nobody commenting seems to be listening to Mark’s argument.
