Got review copies for two film books that have been on my reading list for months.

Happy Birthday to this guy who became a western legend I guess and leftist film twitter and republicans love him for some reason. Here's his cameo in Baby Face (1933) four years before Stagecoach (1939).

@mrasberry.bsky.social Hello, I am Mohammed from Gaza. My family and I are living in a very difficult situation because of the war. Please donate and share.

I'm a big fan of Preston Sturges writing in scenes of character actor William Demarest having pratfalls outside of windows.

John Fetterman walking into work

It was wild but unsurprising to learn that one of the elements of the film Baby Face (1933) that scandalized people, leading to the implementation of the hays code, was the fact the main character paid her maid Chico enough money to buy fancy furs during the depression.

I’m 5’5 and my male bestie is 6’7 so every single time we’re having an in depth discussion it looks like this except I’m craning my neck even more.

Technically many Republicans have admired fascists regimes. Many of them endorsed Benito Mussolini in the 1930s but they were considered weird by most Republicans.

@mrasberry.bsky.social I'm sorry ‏I'm ahmed. My family and I are facing very difficult circumstances in Gaza, and we need your help. Any donation, no matter how small, can make a big difference in our lives. If you can contribute or even share this message, I would be deeply grateful

The annual Neon box is going to be like a mini Criterion Closet this year.

Preston Struges was so mean when he wrote this line

Once I can start posting videos longer than a minute and 30 seconds on this app I’ll be unstoppable.

Preston Sturges was the king of mocking the censors, here are some of my favorite sex jokes he practically flaunted. Would have made the video longer but bluesky wouldn't let me.

Twitter is down again. Guess it's time to go back into the crawlspace again.

That’s none of my business.

Have only seen 37 palm d’or winners. Rookie numbers. Need to pump them up.

Every shot of Inland Empire is the scariest image ever filmed and that’s why it’s a masterpiece

♥️Jean-Louis Trintignant♥️

Every time you buy a Harry Potter product, you are financing the dismantling of trans rights

It's so funny to me when someone hates my take on a film they love, and even state you should go in with zero expectations, when the only expectation I have is this.

Fave podcast. Fave filmmaker. Fave fellas. Give this a listen!

What it's like to be obsessed with golden age actresses

I hate Frank Fay so much that Nothing Sacred (1937) went down half a star in my letterbox rating, even though he has less than 10 minutes of screen time. He's the apotheosis of Golden Age Hollywood scumbags.

In this week’s Directed By Women Viewing Guide: a literary French romance, a doc about a cult musician, an ensemble independent dramedy, a Spanish romantic comedy, an Italian war-set drama, a fantastical short film, and a documentary about kids living in a Palestinian refugee camp in Lebanon.

Finished Nothing Sacred (1937)

Starting Nothing Sacred while it's boring at work and why did they do this to Carole Lombard? That's so mean.

Proud of the fact that when you google the quote "Don't tell me the jive session has beat off without baby!" from Ball of Fire (1941) and incidentally press google images I show up in the results. My hard work of being annoying about that film is paying off.

Watched Mermaids (1990) last night for the first time and loved it. Wrote a short review too. letterboxd.com/mbrasberry/f...

My Darling Clementine (1946) I can't believe I've waited this long to see this masterpiece. A perfect narrative, with superb acting, and one of the best gun fights ever printed on celluloid. Plus you get to see Walter Brennan die which is always satisfying. One of Ford's best!

Getting into westerns and celebrating Henry Fonda’s 120 birthday at the same time. NW:

Just watched The Ox-Bow Incident (1943) and now I don’t feel so good. What a harrowing film to watch.

If I had a nickel for every film William A Wellman made in 1943 about the inherent dangers of patriarchal conservative vigilante justice being dispensed where the method of execution is strangulation I would have two nickels.

It’s really funny the Shampoo (1975) has a downer ending ending with Nixon winning the election of 1968, and it’s never conveyed that any of the liberal characters in the film had actually gone out to vote like the Republican characters in the film did. Self fulfilling prophecy.

Shampoo (1975) is the most introspective film of Warren Beatty's career, as it forces him to reflect on his casual extramarital affairs is a way to circumvent the fact that he can't garner real connections with anyone fearing commitment. Thank god he got over it with Benning.

My puppy Coco posed so well for this photo of us

9 years on, I still think about Michael Shannon’s take on why Trump got elected & who his supporters are. He pulls zero punches.

I love the lesbian dish towels in Jeanne Dielman’s apartment.

Found a picture of Brian Cox as Leon Trotsky in the Nicholas and Alexandra (1971) film and woah
