Also not surprising that Brackett didn't co-write Double Indemnity seeing as he didn't like her at all. Wilder wanted her for Midnight (1939) and would have gotten her if not for scheduling conflicts with Golden Boy (1939). Wilder's only pick for Phyllis was Stany and thank god.

He loved liberal screenwriters who knew not to discuss politics or praise FDR in front of him. Some have even interpreted Mr. Smith Goes to Washington as a rebuttal to The New Deal from Capra, but was opaque enough you could ascribe a liberal interpretation.

Truly. Barbara had the worst luck attracting fascist sympathizers. Frank Capra, who wanted to marry her, was once a Mussolini fanboy to the point he had a pic of Il Duce in his bedroom and admired Francisco Franco.

It’s fantastic and the most detailed biography I’ve ever read on a person, and it’s 860 pages and only goes up to 1940. The author says her goal is for volume II to be finished by now or halfway through 2025 as she revealed in a May 2024 that she needed at least a year or year and a half.

Thank god nobody remembers except for Harvey fanatics that he originated that role. I’m just shocked he did in 1944 since he already was a pariah and divorced from Stanwyck at the times. And everyone knew he stalked her after their divorce.

Sometimes I imagine a universe where Dr. (N)Gatu! Was the series picked up and not The Simpsons. It would have probably been canceled after two seasons
