Thanks, I've done some homework with YouTube and it looked pretty good fun

I'm seeing Morrissey this week, quite excited!!

Agree, excellent film - I'm not a film person, prefer music and books, but this was one that really gripped me.

Thanks for your concern everyone, and yes, my mildly grazed knee is healing fine.

Third ride today, slowly building up the distance, and the confidence, although falling off like a total idiot didn't help.

But ... Going Live was better than Swap Shop, which wasn't as good as Tiswas, which was better than them all.

I never got The Smiths back in the day, I found Morrissey to be whiny and annoying - it turns out I was the whiny and annoying one, and The Smiths were great! (especially Marr and Rourke, I admit I'm still not made on Moz, although am seeing him live next week).

Love Warpaint, have a bit of a cheeky crush on Jenny Lee. I missed them when they played Madrid last year, I was away - hope they come back one day!

My dream is to have my own little camper-van so I can zip off to festivals that are otherwise unrealistic and not miss out on this sort of thing - #dEUS playing their debut album in full with SKC guesting on bass, and muggins here is missing the lot!
comment in response to post
More on #dEUS for anyone who follows the brilliant Belgian indie-art-rock band: original bass player Stef Kamil Carlens is playing with them over the summer, probably just one date I would guess - SKC's a busy fella - plus the band are working on a new album.

I quite liked Inglorious Basterds and Django, but they didn't have that swish style of the early films - the Kill Bills are great, although I've never understood what people find so compelling about popcorn.

Dialogue and soundtrack were groundbreaking - loved it! - but prefer other Tarantino films above this, especially Jackie Brown.

I might need to buy this issue. It's a full-time job to keep up with King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard's output - a job I'd quite happily do, by the way.

The loveless relationship with his Father was interesting, and how this made him angry and more determined to succeed on his own terms. My relationship with my father was similar, but in my case it made me do what I thought might please him to prove my value - doesn't work!

Thanks, great to see someone else actually doing travel writing not just vids, thanks!

When are the shows?

I don't like all the faff with DVDs, so much drivel at the start you have to wade through, but is there any better way to own films on physical media?

I've just got back from Vilnius for a trip, so am listening to Kamanių Šilelis (which means The Pinewood of Bumble Bees apparently) - I like to try to discover local bands when I travel #NowSpinning #MusicSky

Does this include the Reeperbahn area? I ask for the Beatles connection, not any other reason.
comment in response to post
Although, it may be that travel is the only time I ever really mix with the general public, so perhaps that skews my view

I always thought the same, his solo work is surprisingly poppy - I guess Steve Hackett must have been the main man with the music side of things.

This is definitely not my opinion, but happy to be proven wrong - I certainly think it would have been better with Staircase on it.

Ordered my copy of the album - can't wait!

Whenever I see someone smoking these days I am momentarily bamboozled, why would anyone do such a ridiculous thing? So entirely pointless! (and yes, I used to smoke ...)

That looks incredible! Enjoy!

In the end I just went round and round a circuit near my house, committing to no more than 5k, deciding the purpose was just to break the ice and get back in the saddle, not to break any speed or distance records. That said, either my bike needs a service and new tyres, or I need a new bike.
comment in response to post
... the tyres weren't properly inflated, and no amount of huffing and puffing with the pump could get the bastards any firmer than a cushion. This meant I felt every little stone and bump as I flew along through the local park and on into the wilder mountain paths, it was excruciating ...

Just went for said bike ride, the purpose of which was to reawaken my dormant love of cycling, something I've lost completely since my illness a few years ago - in that regard, mission accomplished up to a point. It has nudged that part of me from its slumber ... however ...

I think it's generally true that cartoons can be misleading - not just in relation to hats. I admit I regret buying an anvil for my own personal protection, it's a bugger to carry around.

I was there a few years ago, in Reykjavik - I never even left the city, but was absolutely fascinated by the place. Would love to return and explore properly, especially inland.

Bit of a Joy Division them there - great choice!

Yes, this is a problem for me too - my ideal woman is basically someone old enough to not get hip-hop (and ideally who gets goose-bumps when listening to people playing musical instruments very well).

Fascinating stuff - I've always wondered what it would be like to live and work on a submarine. I get claustrophobic, so it might not be my ideal work environment, but it still fascinates me.
