Great question.
As a child I would have benefited from Jessica Whipple’s message in “I Think I Think a Lot,” illustrated by Josee Bisaillon. I love the way she describes positives about the child’s personality and way of thinking.

I’m so glad you shared this.
Earlier in the week, I had told an “Odder” fan that Katherine Applegate has a new book coming out but then couldn’t answer, “What is it about?”
“It has a cute bear on the cover” is not a sufficient answer.

You are so right! That seems like the perfect Sunday afternoon activity! Plus, it’s cute and productive! So glad you shared!

I’m a librarian by trade, but the only books I’ve organized are my middle grades - and I did those by color (gasp, no)! It’s half a shelf, and it makes me happy. Would never do that for my picture books. They are kind of clumped by theme or when I bought them in four different spots of the house.

Looking through your last few posts, I think we might be a match. 🙂 Unless you hate cats. I’m not an animal person, but they filled the nest just as it emptied.

Sounds fun. And gives me plenty of time to order the book through the library. 🙂

Thank you! The only one of those I’ve visited is Linden Tree on my way to their Jan Brett book signing. They had signed books by many favorite authors plus staff members were that perfect blend of helpful while letting patrons browse independently.
Excited to have more indies to add to my list! ❤️ 📚

Love your portfolio! My favorite is the classroom scene! Many of the spreads look bookish. How many books have you illustrated?

I love this so much! Humor within an academic setting. Not everyone can pull that off. 🙂

Love this depiction of everyday life!

Yes, it is our last day of school. And this author librarian is so happy to see a school themed kidlit art postcard! Many illustrators depict only “whimsical” outdoor scenes when so much of what happens in our worlds is indoors. ❤️

We’ve been there. It was a couple decades ago so it was a brand new iPod. He wanted to record the steps he walked while in the pool.

How many more days do you have?
Tomorrow is our last day. We have 43 still checked out and 18 that moved away with kids.

Attending a Ren Fest in Kansas while visiting family this month. Sadly, I do not fit either of my stepmother's handmade dresses.
(Why is it that including the word stepmother makes this sound like a book idea? If I had called her "my dad's second wife" it absolutely wouldn't have had that vibe.)

If you want an online accountability buddy, we could lecture each other from afar from time to time. It's two days till summer so I'm available to read things too. 🙂

I saw this one come through on PW and am excited to read it!

Just wait till you see the book! It flows so quickly now that it's fully sketched. That's something I didn't expect. To have illustrations speed up a book. I'm learning so much in this process!

Love hearing those wins! And that someone else is riding the end of the year chaos train! Our field day is tomorrow!

The cover has such a beautiful vintage vibe! I agree with the others. It adds joy to our feeds as we see it promoted!
Publishing is much like parenting. The lows don't wait till we've had a chance to celebrate the highs! #kidlitchat

Yep, life as usual. The college kid insisted on returning to campus 4 days later (so he could karaoke in the dorm talent show). And the school let me take time off to fly cross country for those 5am grandma snuggles that allow new parents to sleep. All while the illustrator worked his magic.

Congrats on "I'm Busy!" Seeing all four of the others together was a perk of our annual inventory. It's good to know the date when #5 will join them.
Excited to read your future middle grades! I imagine joyful books with sketches throughout!

Sending this to my KC nieces. We are still in school but they are already summering. 🙂 I was surprised their website didn’t name the authors! Has the grapevine revealed who else will be there?

Happy birthday! How about Korean shaved ice for recipe joy?
We made Bingsu last weekend. Freezing milk (with sweetened a little sweetened condensed milk mixed in) made much better snow than just the ice I had used for past attempts.

If beta reading my son’s chemo book sounds like a distraction, let me know. When he had to go back on treatment for the 5th time -this time during college, he couldn’t handle the “I’m so sorry”s & put it into words. Aka why we are self publishing. According to the publishing world, cancer is niche.

Do you have library apps? They saved me during my two week new grandbaby snuggling trip. ❤️
