On Martha's Vineyard, came across the shell of an Atlantic Horseshoe crab. The modern horseshoe crabs date from 250 million years ago. They are among the very oldest complex animal species existing today. We have nothing like this where I live; coming across this foot long shell was a shock.

We encountered a "bold jumper" in the kitchen yesterday. Phidippus audax is a dramatic looking species of non-web-building spider. Apollo expressed a lot of interest so my wife contacted her friend who has like a PhD in spiders for info, because of course. So anyway we have a new pet now.
