Can't read the article bc paywall, but no way. DL operated on another plane and wasn't big on politics, but hadn't voted conservative since Reagan, and saw Trump for the threat he was. Watched The Art Life yesterday, he expressed disdain for racists twice in it.

Also in my 40s and figuring it out, despite a lifelong special interest and major in psychology. 😂🤷🏼♀️ Bc of ABA and poor understanding even still, I think it's just as well I slipped by undiagnosed as a child. Still had trauma/abuse and learned to mask tho.

I'd just add that it would be ideal to consult actually autistic adults for the sensitivity reading vs allistic "experts" or parents of autistic children who unfortunately often come from a place of ableism. Highly recommend checking out the work of Dr. Devon Price, an autistic psychologist.

Yeah, I can have a hard time knowing if teasing is meant to be mean or not, and probably give the benefit of the doubt too often, or conversely am sometimes overly sensitive. The school bully we hated was more obviously intentionally mean though.

I frustrated bullies by not caring about their approval or conformity, but had a little boy best friend in 1st grade, and we'd plot against the biggest bully we knew all the time, it was like a social justice hyperfixation. Bet anything he was autistic too, he was "gifted" and placed a year ahead.

Yeah, we probably give them too much benefit of the doubt. They weren't just willing to overlook those things, they were the primary appeal. "I had to vote for my wallet" is what they say when they don't want to admit it. Not that people aren't struggling and deceived, but it's sadly deeper.
