Follow-up: Kid 2.0 did indeed read 1984, and gave it 4.5 out of 5 stars. Huge accomplishment: they hate reading. I’m proud of their progress this year. At the beginning of the year, choosing to read 1984 would have been as unthinkable as them kind of liking it.

Saw first-hand parents who poured ten$ of thousand$ into select softball hoping for scholarships. Not sure how many got scholarships, but I know that none of my daughters’ former teammates, or kids we knew on other teams, are playing softball at Division I schools next fall. Questionable investment.
