4. As for the voters, he's burning his base. People didn't vote Labour for even crueller policies than the Tories imposed. They voted for "Change". Perhaps some Reform voters will enjoy seeing disabled people getting beaten up, but that won't translate into votes. It's just loss, loss, loss.

We are still getting DWP letters for the guy who used to live here and the way your heart sinks as you pick up one of those, until you see it's not addressed to you. 😬

I cannot wait to learn to use all the bells and whistles on this. I really hope for the next class session they can allow me to do every 2 weeks, every week was way too much but I do want to continue it.

Our works aren't just unsearchable. They also get deplatformed. Even though some disabled folks still share my and Rua's highest profile piece to date, it doesn't show up in Google searches, even though it was published in a prominent publication. bsky.app/profile/disa...

I’ll hopefully be spinning some of these during Tour de Fleece, if you’d like to see that and everyone else’s spinning efforts please consider following this feed!

I have mostly been avoiding the news because I just can't take it. 😒 Would definitely need multiple pep talks and a few hugs after at the moment!

It's a loan, so *fingers crossed* he gets his fitness and form back and returns to us in the Championship. Happy for Wigan, McClean was good for them too so lots of connections. πŸ™‚

I'm really grateful. A weekly class is proving a bit too much for me with long covid and MCS, but they're going to see if they can allow me to go bi-weekly in the fall. My husband is getting me a machine so I can keep learning at home πŸ™‚ (it's computerised so no foot use needed!)

Thankfully they do most of the work with the newer ones! But I messed up threading it once and she showed me what to look for so it doesn't happen again. I never managed to get past threading with my Aunt's old Kenmore machine. My husband is treating me to the same Brother Innovis machine. 😁

This is through Adult Learning Wales and they even provide a funded support worker. If there's a skill you've wanted to learn that'll make you more employable - check out their course catalog here: www.adultlearning.wales

This was really excellent, thank you for finding and sharing it!

I can't say I'm an expert, even after living here 7 years a lot of things still confuse me (thanks long covid + completely different electoral systems), but there is always hope that the house of lords does improve things. They shot down some really horrid things under the Tories.

Over on twitter there have been some good ones, especially from Nikki da Costa x.com/nmdacosta and Dr Oxford (can't find the link ATM)

I'm really glad I finally remembered to check back in with the thirst section feed. What a wonderful story! And a lovely gift to go to your respective homes. πŸ™‚

It hasn't become law yet but passed a house of commons vote. We now need the Lords to do their jobs and reintroduce all of the safeguards the committee decided not to include. But it is *very* clear what Keir Starmer and Kendall have in mind for us. 🀬

Yeah, wild fire smoke is horrendous - definitely would be like my old house where we couldn't open any windows with it next to a parking lot. It was nice today and suddenly a lung full of acrid smoke and having to wait for my husband to come close the door. Lungs weren't super happy before that. 😒

It is difficult to move as a disabled person, the main thing is understanding the visa rules in the place you want to move as some don't allow certain conditions or even retirees. I wish you luck in finding a more comfortable place though!

Where I lived before went from -20 to blazing hot far too quickly. I wasn't as ill then, but it was still very difficult to cope with. It's more temperate here but it comes with other weather related illness niggles. I will never miss -20 though, even on days like this.

We bought one when our oven broke for an extended period of time. I think a good quality/energy efficient convection oven serves the same purpose, but I love it because it's small and the lid isn't heavy so I can actually use it independently on good days. We have lots of counter space now though.

It one of the most atrocious bills they are voting on, they have ignored every amendment that would have improved its safety. It is clear they want coercive Canadian style MAiD instead of providing health and social care.

The grass is also not always greener when it comes to disability and medical care. I'm an immigrant for family reasons and it completely destroyed my health.

Timms is a sell out too, he used to fight against this stuff loudly!

Absolutely fuck that guy. He must harm so many people in his practice but I've blocked him on every platform.

This is what I'm going to see every time it happens now. πŸ˜‚ Need a @darthpunkwxm.bsky.social Count Ref card now.

I wish I could have some adult beverages and friends over, but it will mostly just be survival mode to cope with the heat and not be hospitalised. *sigh* the "joy" of chronic illness combined with friends living in other countries!

But whether or not we have jobs, we still face ~Β£1000/mo extra costs just to have the same standard of living as our non-disabled counterparts and that's what PIP was developed for.

The current government seems to think the millions of disabled people out of work due to their disabilities just need a bit of positive thinking and more willpower. While it's usually the opposite, we still push too much to our detriment.

If it's 31 in N Wales I really worry for the rest of the country. 😭 We may need to get the air conditioning unit out of storage but we don't have the window covering needed for it.

Alice Wong, Sami Schalk, Liz Jackson (who coined the term disability dongle) are all really good sources, I especially appreciate Liz and Rua Williams more recent work. Out of spoons to go into more detail right now.

I should add that I don't really relate to the social model of disability very well, my body definitely disables me just as much as society due to the chronic illnesses I have. No amount of removing external barriers will fix my energy impairments. I'm struggling to think of good books to recommend.
