Just now learning that "zounds" was a euphemism for the grave remark, "god's wounds". I'm not sure "zounds" can be restored. We'll have to use the older, unminced phrasing. We do need it. You must be ready to notice when the father bleeds and falters, for that is where our responsibilities begin.
