Badges? Uniform? Identifiers?
How long before random thugs start emulating the “official” thugs?

.... can we get us some Tellerite action?
And first encounter with Tamarians (when it's a major effort to get as far as 'Pike, and the walls rise' when Pike stuffs it up and they break off attempts at contact)

Context.

“I was 21 years when I wrote this song, I’m 22 now but I won’t be for long”.
Catchy as feck, but he ain’t a Time Lord

I recall that was a line that got “I don’t want to sing that”, but it was fought for with real intentionality to make people feel guilty and cough up.

*nuclear physics. Chemistry is in the electrons.
Strictly every alpha IS a Helium nucleus (and HIDES two deuteriums, or a Tritium and a Hydrogen-1)

“No heavy metal, Rock n Roll, we don’t want them back. I’d rather Jack, than Fleetwood Mac” - Reynolds Girls.
An honourable mention for Neil Diamond : “and no one heard at all, not even the chair”

I am *so* frustrated by people who complain about problem A or B.... and hence vote reform, but then given those complete knuckleheads a pass on anything more complex than a soundbite.
Rule of thumb: A politician who thinks virtually anything is a black and white issue? Probably lying or an idiot

.... and I can certainly remember someone I liked (but cannot recall the specifics) mis-step, get called out, complain about 'joke blindness' and only then for me to read the original and think 'yeah, they got that wrong, it was a joke shaped object'.
(This captured a thought process from me, soz!)

I can certainly think of times when people (including myself) have gone for 2) and it been interpreted (reasonably) as 3) or 4).
This can be exacerbated by 2nd language, cross culture (even US vs UK) and all sorts of other stuff.
Humans are tricky things. Jokes in text are hard.

.... for me, context matters. If its someone who, broadly speaking, I trust to try and get it right (yourself, for instance), I'd assume a mis-step. Nobody perfect.
For a random person latching on to say something 'edgy edgy' then it leans to 3) or 4)

3) Sometimes you get someone saying something pointed and wicked, and then when called out retreats into 'it was just a joke'.
Case in point: HUGE amount of vile stuff questioning the Britishness of the Indian plane crash survivor flits from 2) to 3).
And sometimes 4) it wasn't a joke, it was mean

There's a several things going on here.
1) That clearly was a joke, and the folks didn't get it
2) Sometimes you do get people trying a joke and being genuinely offensive because of ignorance, oversight (at best) - or callousness (at worst).

There’s differing points of view, that’s one thing; but I’ve had enough of Maga, flat earthers, “convid” and “space is fake” types (amazing overlap) that they can speak, but I ain’t listening….

That flag that is commonly flown by racists in celebration of slave-ownership? That one?
More about the people.
In the same vein, I'd be wary of someone walking along waving a 1940s era German flag.
But, you know this, and you went false equivalence. Into the blocklist with your Maga arse.

Had a listen through - mean to go back as music for me needs a certain familiarity. I'm knee deep in paperwork at the moment, so I'm going familiar but not lyrical... Kraftwerk's 'Tour de France' is in heavy rotation.
(Podcasts for commute, finished Johnny Ball on ABC this AM, HWIFY is homeward!)

Finished the listen - I always enjoy hearing Johnny B in whatever capacity - makes me so happy.
Thanks guys.
( A random thought occurs.... can you imagine Johnny on @taskmaster.tv ? Oh my goodness, @alexhorne.bsky.social ... schedules would be the thing; and what a guest he'd make for WILTY! )

I can’t imagine how comedy goes with GB News at all, unless its very much of the punch down variety… which can go and jump in a bucket (an odd phrase, but I’ll stick with it)
