The £1 ticket levy could change everything for grassroots venues - but only if the industry steps up and implements it. Not next year. Not when it’s convenient. Now.

Mark calls for the industry to treat Agent of Change not as "a nice idea" but as a non-negotiable standard - and to hold planners, councils, and MPs accountable until it’s written into law.

The result is more noise complaints, more closures, and more lost places for community music to thrive.

The latest Substack from our CEO Mark Davyd exposes how this planning principle - if enforced - could have already saved hundreds of stages. Instead, venues are falling victim to slow, confusing development processes that favour developers over culture.

The recent Music Fans Voice data confirmed that nationally 85% of people agree there should be new laws introduced so that anybody moving into areas near music venues cannot make complaints about noise related to the venue. Right!?

Artists including Sam Fender, Katy Perry, Coldplay, and Enter Shikari were early adopters of the Grassroots Levy and have enabled Liveline to begin fuelling the future of UK grassroots music.

This is the first tour to be funded by the Liveline Fund which was created by MVT and live music advocates Save Our Scene (SOS) to distribute funding directly to grassroots venues, artists, and promoters with financial support raised by contributions from arena and stadium ticket sales.

If music has ever given you a place to belong - and you want to support Andy's massive undertaking - please consider donating to his fundraiser for MVT. Every step he ran helped keep our venues alive.

Andy ran 7 ultra-marathons from the Brudenell Social Club in Leeds down to Sam Fender's London show - to protect the venues that gave him community, connection, and strength when he needed it most.

Support your local venues, artists, and promoters by shouting about them as much as we can IRL and online.

We know the Minister recognises the crucial importance of GMVs and so we look forward to learning how a reduced DMCS budget will be realigned to better support the UK's GMV sector.

The absence of targeted support or investment into grassroots music venues misses, yet again, an opportunity to support a sector that subsidies new and original live music to the tune of £116m every year. Our attention is now on Sir Chris Bryant's upcoming 10-Point Plan For Music.

We’re incredibly proud to support this move and everything it represents: resilience, ambition, and the fight for independent culture in the heart of Liverpool.
Keep your eyes on the venue for updates - and please lend your support however you can.

Now, fans are being invited to speak up, to help shape the future of live music in this country.
This review came as a direct response to long-standing concerns raised by venue operators, artists, promoters and campaigners, including MVT.

Grassroots venues are closing at an alarming rate. Artists are struggling to make touring viable. Independent promoters are under pressure. And fans have been left unheard in decisions that affect the soul of the UK’s music ecosystem.

It’s not about policing. It’s about protecting the joy of live music.
Fans notice the difference. They feel seen, not surveilled. And that’s why they feel safe.
