Very true.

Absolutely.

I like your take on this. In that light, we have to be aware that opinions can be part of an emotional journey or learning curve. Then there's communication which also comes into it when people present their arguments.

Yes. I thought along these lines when somebody referred to former leaders. They, & by extension many (eg journos, political analysts, policy wonks, & political enthusiasts) have another level of access. And citizens, no matter how poorly informed we might be, have a right to speak.

Yes, but now you're talking about how facts can be used in rhetoric, spin, and framing to exploit. In this era of the sound bite, it's totally normal for a compelling yet unbased argument to go viral without any reference to sound evidence or even reality! I.e. the NewsCorpse business model

Yes, exactly. I'm not necessarily accepting this theory, just using it to illustrate that there can be other yet unknown variables and explanations besides the ones that have been immediately slot into common narratives.

Even if we agree on your framing of the context, this doesn't preclude other factors in this instance. For example, one theory put forward is that Husic is more free to speak to the Gaza genocide from outside Cabinet.

Interesting take!

I agree with the logic of this statement, but in the real world, don't we just use this theory to inform our judgements? I.e. until we have evidence, our claims remain opinion, not fact. In a democracy this means we have a right to demand more information (role the 4th estate is supposed to fulfil).

Do you think they are the same as those of us who have never been "in the tent"? What might this mean for their knowledge and access compared to our's?

People have a right to an opinion and to formulate a critique in a democracy, but it's problematic when theory or opinion is not separated from fact.

I agree with your objective and logical approach. There's too much cherry picking from too little evidence.

People still have values that fall into left and right camps in the 21st century. This perception that people are all suddenly 'the same' or politically 'neutral' is of course a nonsense and reminds me of how some now buy into the myth that independents are somehow magically value free!

The Teals are more Liberal in the Menzian sense than the Liberal Party

Great post, with lots to unpack. The main point being that, from a governing party perspective, an effective policy needs to be evidence based, practical and achievable and not just sound cool in theory. Anyone involved in developing & implementing policy gets why perfection is rarely achievable.

Thank you for the inclusion. I'm here to fight for global democracy including our own battle against a mini-t Rump in our upcoming Australian federal election. #PuttingTheConIntoConservative

White women need to be blowing up the phones of their senators. Republican and Democrat because it's impossible for some of you not to have a republican senator. Don't just sit up on here and Chuck Schumer yourself into into a frenzy.
