That's a very astute observation, but a frustrating one since it succinctly expresses a 7000-word paper I wrote. :P

One more piece of evidence of how bad virtual charters are - have we reached an academic consensus on this yet?

Great something else I need to figure out how to disable.

So glad to hear about this project. I've been interested in the potential impacts of departmentalization for years!

Werner's "good intention" was to get rich(er) and feed his ego. Just like the rest of this type of narcissistic buffoon.

I keep thinking about the median voter theorem - NYT just needs to be less pro-fascist than the other papers to keep afloat.

Same reason so many economics theories fall apart when they hit reality. Humans act foolishly & irrationally with depressing frequency.

Wow. Virtually everything I've ever written - including two books - is out of bounds. This is some of the most Orwellian crap I've ever seen.

I don't think it's too late for Democrats to course-correct, but if they keep playing chess while the Republicans are are bashing their brains in with a baseball bat, this is not going to end well./7

On the second point, there is a pronounced tendency for the opposition to splinter in the face of authoritarian takeovers. It's absolutely critical to loudly oppose the would-be autocrats in order to keep your base from getting demoralized and/or blaming you for not stopping it./6

On the first point, any crossover votes by the opposition in favor of the regime's policies will provide political cover and blur accountability. You can't claim that you're opposing a fascist takeover and then vote for some of their bills/nominees./5

When confronting a situation like this, the opposition has to keep two key principles in mind: total opposition to every action by the regime, and keeping your popular base motivated and unified/4

However, this is not normal. This is an attempted authoritarian takeover of the U.S. government. It's Nixon on steroids/3

In a normal political cycle, you wait for the majority to overreach, become unpopular, and focus on the mid-terms. This is clearly what D.C. Democrats are doing/2
