I’d be curious to see the historic correlations of political swings and advancements in technology. But I get bogged down in factoring for things like the economy and events like Covid. Is there just something about being human that makes us want em elegant wholistic explanation for everything?

Mostly because I KNOW I do. Not even a question….

Totally agree with turning to YA stuff to remark the joy of reading. I get a little annoyed if the characters are too trope-y or flat, but YA has some of the most imaginative stories and can key into your inner child if you let it.

The dusty tea fragments you get in cheap bagged tea (looking at you Twinings) are from the bottom of a loose leaf barrel.

The fact you’re even thinking in this way puts you ahead of a lot. You’re only one person in an ocean of opinions. Good luck!

I think the problem more comes from the social pressure to conform to and continue the trend and being a pariah if you can’t or won’t do the same. It’s awesome you live your values and do what makes sense to you and your family.

Ultimately, it’s up to you what you want to go along with. There’s way too much pressure on parents with small kids. And the thing about it, is that it won’t matter in the grand scheme of things. I’ve forgotten the names of all but one or two of my kid’s preschool friends 🤷🏻♀️ (and so has he!)

Uhhgg… my heart goes out to you. I was lucky enough to have like-minded parents in the toddler/preschool years that we did very minimal if any gifts. That started to change around 6 years old with school. Even then, my almost 10 year old just likes to party with friends. Gifts are an afterthought.

I think you bring up a really good point on how socioeconomic status plays into this. Feels like a minefield to try and discuss in a brief post, but it’s intriguing nonetheless

Totally agree with brats are made as a general rule. There will always be nuance with individual families, but generally kids will latch on to the values that have been modeled for them.

I try reeeaaaalllyyy hard not to judge other parents’ choices, but ffs, what are you teaching this kid?

It’s okay people! You can OPT OUT of children’s party dogma and do your own thing that works for your family.
(And personally, if the parents aren’t cool enough to hang out with, I generally don’t want to hang with their kids either)

Where was that “solidarity” during the joint session? If they wanted to sing they should have done it while marching behind Al Green as he got thrown out.
Performative bullshit from their ivory towers

You’re totally right.
The problem is this inflated sense of self-righteousness that is blinding the Dems to what is actually happening. They think they are behaving in a more morally correct way, but neglecting the importance of actually unifying under a strategy

Because they’re obsessed with being “better than Them”
They keep trying to get Rs to step up rather than meeting them where they’re at and fighting in the mud.
Or maybe there’s a conspiracy 🤷🏻♀️
I’m tired of trying to understand it.

Just another example of stupid Dem strategy of “LeT’s FiNd CoMmOn GrOuNd!”
Newsom is a master class in swing and a miss. Tone deaf is his brand.
Once again making concessions expecting someone who is morally bankrupt to come to the table and do the same.

Totally… the impression I got from the article was this is just another version of a Dem with an olive branch, attempting to be diplomatic, and totally failing at reading the room of his constituents.

Exactly - this is just the newest boogeyman to exploit. Very few people are actually knowledgeable about trans issues, so they only have their imagination and fear to make judgement calls.

I didn’t particularly care for the way the article was written. It feels like material designed to confirm bias rather than offering any sort of actual reporting or analysis. I really don’t want to go listen to the episode, but now I’m curious for comparative reasons.

Dems are just grasping at straws to try and get a foothold on influence. Newsom is smarmy, but I don’t hate the guy. That said, what’s happened here is dangerous. Trans kids have become this boogeyman - real people being treated as an issue to “find common ground on.” It’s dehumanizing
