Watching this triggered a high school memory of a coach saying: “Shaq can’t make free throws. Don’t be like him.” And all of us freshman thinking “Naw, we’d trade with Shaq any day.”

Perfect for a Friday night at the start of summer.

Potaroma makes some great toys. The recharable 3-1 hide and seek is awesome. Been months and they still go for it.

Frida’s is great! It’s becoming a North County staple around here!

Great Saturday night watch. But I want the backstory on the original pitch, shopping it around, and the evolution (mixed with covid) that led to this. Also, the fully automatic pistols with unlimited ammo kind of feel like a cheat code here.

This post is made even better because I can hear your podcast voice in my head. Well done.

To my discredit, I didn’t know we had a basketball team until the spring of my senior year. Go Tritons!

Comparing this with San Diego taco shop prices and silently crying into my quesadilla.

You take that extra half hour to browse the isles. You deserve it after this weekend. (I can identify.)

If Dog Man doesn’t get a Fair Fairy at their birthday party…that’s going to be some cat therapy bills in the next few years. (Also, let us know if you find any referrals.)

I was just looking at Stewart’s “America” book today on my shelf. I wonder how it holds up 20+ years later.

Early 90s: Unforgiven. Late 90s: Crimson Tide*. *actual time frame may vary from my impressionable early teenage memory.

Wife and I have loooong conversations about this exact thing. Kidnapping a monkey in “Africa” (actual country name not provided) and then selling him to the zoo? Sure. Seriously, these books are wild.

Just read “George Takes A Job” to the kid. Man with the yellow hat finds out that George has escaped the zoo and is in the hospital with a broken leg. Man’s reaction is to call the hospital and say: “Keep that monkey there until he heals! I locked him into a movie deal that will make me money!”

Yes! I read the graphic novel to my kiddo and he loved it enough to ask for some of the stories from the full novel. Total win.

This is so good. How did we miss this two years ago?

I feel like this still is my most difficult parenting discovery as a dad who can solve lots of problems: Me: Look, I took an hour to make you real food with both savory and sweet characteristics! Them: No. Me: (Internal heartbreak)

Ours was suddenly realizing that neither of us had formatted or printed the “From Santa” tags needed for the gifts that were not from “us”. Took that extra parenting motivation to keep the facade up for the younger one. I’m so tired and wouldn’t trade it for anything.

Favorite memory of Landmark Hillcrest was going in blind to see Pan’s Labyrinth. Sorry to see it go.

Yes. Lots of wistful nostalgia for what was and what might have been. But I am happy. Totally fair question.

Statistical sample of one household here. Confirmed this seems accurate.

Was this gold cybertruck in San Diego? I saw one yesterday that had big QR codes over a gold wrap. I did NOT point the camera at it. Felt like a trap!

Got my ingredients laid out. If all goes according to plan it will come out of the oven at 5pm PST.

Yes. I’m doing this too.

I have amazing memories of being at Star Trader around this time. I recall they had an arcade nearby that had some great pinball machines!

Obviously the full novel is the best, but the graphic novel adaptation is a great jumping off point for younger kids! a.co/d/4o7YpUR

Then before I know it, we are talking about our favorite banned books. And we compare Libby audiobook reading lists. And she is sharing how she took a weeks long road trip down the original Route 66 while listening to “The Grapes of Wrath”. I was sooo jealous. 3/

Grandmother of my kid’s playmate strikes up conversation and we complement each other’s offspring. Talk about school. Etc. Then grandmother says “Banned or not, I think more kids should be reading!” “Yup” I say. Can’t disagree with that. But I’m hesitant because I don’t know where she is going. 2/
