I remember being advised to pack iodine tablets just in case during my first DC summer internship in 2002.

Mendacious, even. Mendacious, such a good word, and great to use if it fits, which it does. Tyler Austin Harper is a Mendacious. Little SAT word for everyone there

The way he touches her face at the end made my skin crawl and is absolutely the kind of thing these guys would do. Disgusting! 10/10 casting.

One of the secret best RPGs ever is a PS2 gem called Shadow Hearts: Covenant. Easily one of the best combat systems ever (a button combo mini game that boosts damage) and a rad story set during an alt-history WW1. Haven't met too many other gamers that played it. Tough to find, but worth it.

This aspect of his acting affect made him really great in Mississippi Burning.

barrett's decision in skrmetti is not actually an ironic counterpoint to the new york times profile because it also appears to be the position of the new york times. it will run as an editorial next.

Norms only exist to restrict Democratic policy goals, just the way the donor class likes it. I think what I'm trying to say here is Ds don't break norms, they just do whatever the GOP did the last time it had power but with less ambition. The net result is policy gets dragged to the right each cycle

I don't think Schumer would ever pull the Parliamentarian trick the GOP is using because he didn't do it the last several reconciliation bills D's passed and the option was clearly on the table. Jefferies has less room to maneuver but is just as beholden to his finance constituents as Schumer.

The sad thing about this to me is current gen Democratic leadership would never in a million years use the expanded powers of the majority and executive to do anything worthwhile or even reverse what has happened. They're too afraid of what the New York Times would write about them.

it is true that NYC politics is an incomprehensible corrupt clusterfuck and it will be a tall order to learn on the job. but it's like that *because of Andrew Cuomo more than any other single person*

So probably less shame and more, "Chill, you're scaring the normies bro." It's wild what breaks through and what doesn't, these guys say shit like this all the time.

It's always funny to me that journos pretend to make a big deal out of impartiality but if you cover tech you basically have to be a total mark and in the tank for these scammy narcissists to have a job. Guys like Kevin here will always line up to help shovel the dogshit for a living.

The joke here being that Ken Paxton is an actual criminal that the Biden WH declined to prosecute. www.texastribune.org/2025/04/03/k...
