Yes 100%. As with most things, it's not some evil conspiracy of people sat round a table to con people. It's prioritising for different things (cheaper price etc) and lack of engineering competence. Actual planned obsolescence is devilishly difficult.

The financial aspect is a big part, it's not always the characterised "lazy dad". Many families just cant afford for Dad to leave work instead of Mum, and so the gender pay gap continues to fuel itself. Similarly many employers not so progressive when it comes to Dads having time off for appts etc.
