Ack, that sounds exponentially harder than a single game. Maybe focus on an ideal player count and get the ones you are most excited about humming together, then add the rest in one at a time? Unless the ideal player count is 7 ππ€―

Which do you think is harder --giving one part of the game to each player to control (like VAST) or a common playfield but unique playstyles (like ROOT)? Nathan Woll's Free Radicals splits the diff, a common action selection area but 10 different factions with their own unique minigames!

The universal feedback I hear from everyone (backers, reviewers, etc.) is how great the artwork is. THANK YOU for making it a beautiful game! β¨π¨

I have only heard great things about Radlands (and have learned a lot from the designer's blog). Have fun!

I watched it for the first time a couple months ago and was like oh, this is a Rebels of the Outlaw Wastes. "A Rock & Roll fable" was basically my design goal for Rebels (inspired by MCR's Danger Days album) but I feel like it could be done even better. Anyway WILLEM DAFOE!!!!

2- In my detective game Hotel Olympus (WIP), a Condition adds a penalty to one *category* of skills, not all skills. So taking a Condition gives players have a reason to try skills that might be outside of their wheelhouse, creating opportunities to play against type.

Couple ways I have used "wounds = penalty":
1 - In Rebels of the Outlaw Wastes, injury gives you a Hazard die that you include with your rolls, it has a 50/50 chance to cancel a success. It's a fist-pumping moment for a player when they roll 3 Hazard dice and none of their successes are canceled.

Agreed! It's kind of the same for minis, the value is all in the figs and full-color hardbacks. But then there's GASLANDS, which is just a book and you supply your own matchbox cars. I am really keen to see more games try that approach (working on something myself!).

Yes, rules by themselves have very little value. Board gamers want to buy a prepared experience. A weird illustration of this is the success of Telestrations or boxed versions of Werewolf. You can play Eat Poop U Cat or Werewolf for free, but people still want to buy a packaged set to play with.

I've seen one small publisher confirm that they are closing doors, and several others say it's on the table for them.

Just make a really good character sheet that implies all of the rules.

I also want to inject player choice into it, so there is tension between your degree of success and how the color will impact the outcome.

I am obsessed with rolling dice of different colors, where the color of the dice you use for your result affects the outcome thematically. I chose the blood-colored die, someone must die in the process. I chose the gold die, I gain/lose money to get what I want.
