I understand that a court can rule that the order of protection should be revoked(due process) and he can be deported but why should he be in jail? Has he been convicted of a crime? He could be tried for domestic abuse but then he would serve his sentence in a US prison and then be deported.

No, the judges just said he could be held at that time. They did not rule that he was MS-13. And the police here in PG County at the time were censured for how they dealt with immigrants and the detective on his case resigned. The judge ruled he could not be sent back to El Salvador.

He had permission to work and be in the US. He joined a union. The court said he could not be sent back to El Salvador and the first Trump administration did not contest it. Before going against the court, there should have been a hearing. thehill.com/regulation/c...
