O Lord, they fight! I will go call the watch.

Pretty much yeah.

Simple media message: they voted to throw millions of people into poverty so they could line their pockets. More complex media message: and they are currently threatening to end the data collection policy analysts could use to show that.

My own votes went half to Latvia (they were beautiful!), five to Sweden, and one each to Estonia, Norway, Germany, the Netherlands, and Iceland. Ah well. #Eurovision

Maybe the juries won’t vote for Iceland, but we did make them a cake! #Eurovision

Eurovision semifinals! The ultimate comfort watch!!

You know ai is a bad idea because all of the worst people on the world keep trying to force us to use it

On Eurovision: Sweden is perfect, Italy is stunning, I can’t stop listening to Germany and Iceland, and Australia needs to go directly to prison.

"Woke Marxist pope" scans to "pink pony club" really nicely

We know exactly how you feel, Carney.

One of the things that never gets easier about a Trump administration is realizing again and again that there are millions of people who are motivated solely by cruelty. People make excuses for it, but at the end of the day that’s what it is.

I still think about this more than I should.

I got to see Mazie Hirono (and Pramila Jayapal, Ilhan Omar, and Maxwell Frost) yesterday!

I love adding this one data point to economic charts. It works every time.

Each of Susan Cooper’s “Dark Is Rising” books is $1.99 on Kobo today. 👀

I announced very loudly to someone that I never read science fiction written by men. And then of course two hours later, I remembered about Scalzi. And another two hours later, Tchaikovsky. Okay, I don't read sci-fi written by men very OFTEN.

“It's hypocrisy to call yourself a Christian and chase away a refugee or someone seeking help, someone who is hungry or thirsty, toss out someone who is in need of my help. If I say I am Christian, but do these things, I'm a hypocrite." -Pope Francis

Ten bucks says Trump tries to appoint a new Pope through executive order.

Old North Church in Boston last night on the 250th anniversary of Paul Revere's ride.

one thing that Democratic politicians should take note of is that the overlap between “great political optics” and “actual morally good stuff” is really big right now

“The value of one Smartie is negligible, so it’s fine if I steal all the chocolate in the world.”

One weird thing about all of these awesome federal programs getting gutted out of existence is that I now know they used to exist. That’s sort of nice, I guess. It’s like learning about an animal that went extinct last Tuesday.

A reminder that if the government can send migrants to a prison camp without any due process, it can send U.S. citizens there, too. I know because this happened to me and my family in 1942.

A tricky thing about modern society is that no one has any idea when they don’t die. Like, the number of lives saved by controlling air pollution in America is probably over 200,000 per year, but the number of people who think their life was saved by controlling air pollution is zero.

you know things are going well when they break out the turnip photos

THIRD GRADERS. 8 or 9 years old.

JK Rowling spending this morning attacking asexual people, for absolutely no reason, with no fake pretense of “protecting” people, amazing job becoming a bigger piece of shit, thought she found her ceiling, but she just smashed that

Got there in the end. What a gorgeous spring day. No photos from the protest itself (didn’t bring my phone), but this was the first day of hope I’ve really had since 47 took office, and that is worth its weight in gold.

Mmkay, just bought a giant foam board (and a heap of Cadbury mini eggs to drown my sorrows in). But WHAT do I PUT on it? Anyone else protesting tomorrow? Anyone else figured out to condense their rage to sign-size? This is on the verge of actually stressing me out, which is ridiculous!

I have no idea what to write on my protest sign? Everything is just so much? Like how do I pack the reasons for my presence at this protest into something punchy and short? I cannot!

This is Ellie. She saw her humans out kayaking and decided to rescue them. Only slightly overreacted. Still 14/10

Late but bored, so. Favorite genres: 1) I’m a shapeshifter and I’d really rather not be. Can I not be? Please?* *(I will read absolutely anything in this regrettably tiny genre.) 2) Oh no! I thought I was being clever, but I was actually just destroying my reputation! Now I have to FACE MYSELF.

Less than a year after a full-throated embrace of AI, NaNoWriMo is shutting down :

We are all Rumeysa Ozturk. Free her. Now.

This one‘s personal. I’m so angry.

The last five minutes of that “Severance” episode were not it. I’m not sure why a show that’s rewarded patience and attention up until now needed to show the same dubious plot decision on a loop with a bit of old-timey soundtrack for effect, but it didn’t work. Ugh, this is how “Lost” people sound.
