Come join us at the School of Neuroscience in beautiful Blacksburg. Happy to answer any questions!

I'm hiring a lab tech! If you know any talented college seniors or recent grads who'd enjoy doing cool neuroscience in Baltimore, please encourage them to consider applying: umb.taleo.net/careersectio...

Y'all..she was lost in the wilderness for 3 weeks. She had to splint her own leg, pop her knee back into place, survived by foraging (which she is an expert in) and melting snow, and she did all this while having ballerina syndrome! See her interview here. www.tiktok.com/t/ZTja668Mx/

The dissertation! 150 pages of prairie, history, & more pawpaws than you'd expect. I've sold over 850 copies of this baby, and the world being what it is, it's far too expensive to print another edition right now. Check it out in pdf form: drive.google.com/file/d/104cf...

THIS WEEK! On Wed, May 7, The American Brain Coalition, AAN, American College of Neuropsychopharmacology, Dana Foundation, IEEE Brain, Simons Foundation, SfN & Kavli Foundation, in cooperation w/ the Congressional Neuroscience Caucus, invite you to a special briefing 👉 RSVP: tinyurl.com/25zfk538

Ever wonder how many lives have been saved by NIH-funded research - including your own? Enter any medical condition and instantly see how your tax dollars transformed science into survival. www.ourhealthroi.com

Any 5th-8th grade #science teachers out there who would be interested in an awesome pen pal program? 📝 Applications to participate in Letters to a Pre-Scientist are open! I've enjoyed connecting with my pen pals over cats & books, along with my science. #EduSky prescientist.org/for-teachers/

sometimes I feel like a dinosaur, cause no one looks anything up anymore 🦕

A tricky thing about modern society is that no one has any idea when they don’t die. Like, the number of lives saved by controlling air pollution in America is probably over 200,000 per year, but the number of people who think their life was saved by controlling air pollution is zero.

My friend Henry (who was also my student) & I decided to create some joy in –20°C weather in the Yukon and share it with you all. He is in grade 5 now. We are sending joy, hope, and positivity. (Share such messages to train your algorithm to bring positive and human-centric stories to your feed)

My favorite NPR story blog - “Goats and Soda” sent a writer and photographer to a rural school in India; an early adopter of Foldscope. A wonderful photo story of kids “reading nature”. In this current challenging climate - the kids show us the way with joy and wonder. www.npr.org/sections/goa...

Super excited to host @carabeancomics.bsky.social. She's conducting a Science Comics Lab for my students' community-engaged learning project on the Neuroscience of Drug Addiction!

Hey SUFS Community! If you fall into one of the following categories and are willing to talk to press (on or off the record), please comment/DM us: 1. Had a funded grant revoked 2. Are considering moving abroad to continue your research 3. Have been impacted by the stoppage of a clinical trial

I had to compose myself before posting—because this breaks a part of my soul. If you’re a contractor with a segregation policy, say it loud—so non-white dollars don’t fund your business. It won’t go how you think. And if anyone uncovers businesses doing this, put them on blast. #NAACP #BlackSky

Scientists do not get paid for getting quoted in the newspaper about science. People know this, right? Last year I was quoted in about 30 media articles, and I received a grand total of $0 for this. We do it because it’s important, not because we get paid.

Scientists have just cured pancreatic cancer in some patients with personalized mRNA vaccines. Pancreatic cancer. And this Trump administration wants to throw it all away. They’re throwing away a cure for cancer.

New viewpoint piece in JAMA concerning the early administration of MMR vaccine to children aged at least 6 months if they are at the site of a measles outbreak or traveling to one: jamanetwork.com/journals/jam... IMO:

Has anyone come across a comprehensive overview of the history of HIV antiviral drug development? None that I've found so far have had sufficient detail on the scientific journey and challenges in developing them. Could be a book, chapter, personal retrospectives, or a detailed review. Thanks!

Really cool work from friend and colleague Katie Galloway @mitcheme.bsky.social!

Got new MRI to look at status of meningiomoc friend in my head 1 year post Gamma Knife (6 month MRI looked good) & am waiting for radiologist to review it but am impatient. So - anyone know some AI tools that can analyze time series of brain MRIs to look at tumor size?

New report shows that NIH grants fueled $95 billion in economic activity and 407,782 jobs in 2024. That's not to mention the countless lives that biomedical research has saved. Show me a better investment than that. www.forbes.com/sites/michae...

Trump just withdrew the bad CDC nominee after public blowback about the measles vaccine. Scientists, we can achieve the same with the bad NIH nominee. Public pressure can force out Bhattacharya. Your voices are needed now. Please take action. 🧪

We need to organize--let’s help each other. NIH is cancelling grants, but it's not clear exactly what they're cancelling and why. Without this information, we can't respond. I've started a Google Sheet to track grant cancellations. Please add any canceled grants you know of and spread the word!

omg🫣 btw I highly encourage everyone in journalism/scicomm to apply to this award. It’s more than recognition for your work, it also brings you into a community of people who care deeply about science and the world.

New PIs, check out this opportunity if your research is in the area of digital/computational approaches in neuroscience or psychiatry 👇🏻
