It's a crazy mix of noir, magical realism, and urban fantasy different from anything else I've read. I've never been to Guatemala, but it the author has and it really shows. The world feels like it all happens in the same bright colors as on the cover.

We had the same problem with our cat (we were 'the neighbors' in this scenario and mortified about it). We put fine playground sand in a disused corner of one of our flower beds, turning it into a sort of outdoor litterbox, and our cat never pooped in the neighbor's garden again.
