This has made me think about how much I’d like to read a good environmental history of Oxford and the surrounding area.

Gray Brechin, Imperial San Francisco is a mixed bag but some of it is very good.

Also isn’t the traditional British version of ‘movies’ actually ‘pictures’?

It might be a strange Oxford thing but ‘vacation’ is a pretty standard usage in these parts.

It is doubly weird because a very substantial number of those who voted leave in 2016 have died since then and most of those who have joined the electorate since are more pro-European.

The SF electorate rejected both the left candidate (Peskin) and the most oligarch backed candidate (Farrell) and the final shoot out was between two flavors of liberal business friendly centrists. Which is entirely normal for the mayoral race in the city.

Turn around time isn’t too bad- but we are marking finals now whilst still teaching 1st and 2nd year.

Ours are three hours. The length varies obviously but typically circa 10-15. We blind double mark. I definitely get quicker when I’m in the swing but there is an expectation of about a paragraph justifying the mark with comment on all the questions. Turn around is about 2 weeks.

Blimey- I think I’m pretty quick but I don’t think I’ve ever marked an exam script in under 10 minutes. Wasn’t there a big kerfuffle a few years back when QMUL tried to suggest roughly that time per script for casual markers?

Yes - absolutely right - I think I also mentioned the aesthetic objection in Last Great War. (Strangely was looking at that section this morning).

Must admit that the line about lacking the intellectual conviction to be a proper racist had me in stitches.
