Come down to Newcastle, come up to Newcastle, come across to Newcastle — join the NATIONAL DEMONSTRATION in Newcastle on June 11th. Everyone who thinks HE needs to be supported and accessible to all is welcome! For your agenda's: 11 June, 12-2pm, Newcastle!

We also need to push the government. A small step in doing so would be for you to sign this open letter to @bphillipsonmp.bsky.social docs.google.com/document/d/e...

As the university's management escalates by pressing ahead with up to 38 compulsory redundancies, after losing over 260 of our colleagues through voluntary severance, our membership’s clear message remains: STOP this. Members are upset angry and aghast by the behaviour of university management.

End unnecessary redundancies at Newcastle University. Please sign, share and circulate this @newcastleucu.bsky.social petition amongst your colleagues and networks. chng.it/BXNkGMFNJS

As a trainee journalist in Huddersfield I always wanted to get into BBC Look North. Very proud to appear on the programme tonight stood alongside @newcastleucu.bsky.social on their picket today.

Newcastle University strike highlights crisis in UK higher education.

Solidarity with @newcastleucu.bsky.social and all those back on the picket lines this morning. Staff and Students deserve better than cuts and casualistaton. #ProtectEducationNow #UCU

But but but: UUK dude told the Education Committee that at no point do universities put estates before jobs. Do you mean to say he might not have told the entire truth? 🤔

Durham Students for Palestine are planning a small rally on the geography map tomorrow (Wed 14th) at 1pm, if any UCU members would like to go show some support.

Estates not education

£274M. This they proudly present, at the same time they are making 38 people compulsory redundant…. To save £3.8M www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

Solidairy pickets join us all!

www.timeshighereducation.com/news/plymout... What can we say. This is so damaging and unnecessary. Our members are outraged and will continue to be out on strike next week. Management clearly do not care about the education provision for students.

Management is pressing ahead. Tell them you don't agree with all this damage to the university and regional economy. www.chroniclelive.co.uk/news/north-east-news/newcastle-university-compulsory-job-cut-31592955

We support calls to stop redundancies, end targeting and engage in meaningful negotiation on workload, health and safety, equality and precarity.

Members are upset angry and frankly, absolutely disgusted by behaviour of management. We do not accept nor agree with the way management are approaching the current situation. Management need to stop targeting, stop redundancies, and negotiate on workload, health and safety, equality and precarity.

Philip Augar, who lead on the review of post-18 education and funding neatly summing up the failures of governance in #UKHE. Note how he links the problems directly to the lifting of the student number caps and the thoughtless scramble that inspired. #SaveHE

Een vote amongst staff shows trust in the current leadership is incredible low.
