because we care about education. Disillusioned and without any faith in management, all that goodwill has evaporated. This is a spiral of decline, and management is clamping down on it. They could have stopped this months ago.

Management insists on 3.8 million savings, but doesn’t seem to grasp the impact of their actions. How many millions are and will be lost by the loss of all our brilliant colleagues, and by the loss of goodwill, needed for the overwork so many people were putting into this job, to make it work

These are not cuts they have to make in this way, this is not an approach they have to follow. They can absolutely take a different route, for example use their ample reserves. Our members anxious, but more so our members are furious.

Not only does this show blatant disregard for staff, it is appalling behaviour towards our students, their education and the marking and their graduations that will now be affected for sure.

Whilst we’ve already lost many wonderful colleagues through voluntary severance, and as far as we know university management is still insisting on pressing ahead with destructive compulsory redundancies.
