We found a stack of our popular Great Lakes Basin posters hiding at the back of the shelf! They're on sale now for only $4 with limited stock, so grab yours from our online store before they're gone again: buff.ly/RRNDQlS

"Surveys of people living in the Great Lakes Basin have shown that 90% consider the health of the Great Lakes a priority, regardless of political views." Make sure you catch the rest of IAGLR Executive Director Jérôme Marty's interview with @e4dca.bsky.social here: bit.ly/4hWNhJm

I am finding these starter packs useful for finding others with similar interests so here is another. Ping me if you work in the recreational fisheries science and management space and want to be added! #recreationalfisheries #angling #anglers #fisheriescience go.bsky.app/3UoUZkC

Do you work on lakes globally? Check out what is, to my mind, the most complete global database of lakes (~6M) and associated attributes, newly published in WRR. Also the basis for SWOT lake data. agupubs.onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/full/10....

Chilling report from Brown University. Administration advises all foreign students, staff, and faculty to postpone or reconsider (ie cancel) international travel, due to federal government's crackdown on universities. Brown also warns against *domestic travel* -since it's unclear what ICE will do.

Using remote sensing, this study establishes the nitrogen budget for 5,768 lakes. Results show that reducing watershed #nitrogen input improves water quality nonlinearly, emphasizing targeted watershed management to meet the #SDG of global clean #water. www.nature.com/articles/s41...

Since this is probably about to be relevant: a reminder that when you poll the general public, they estimate NASA to be between 10-30% of the federal budget. It's less than 1%. All that amazing science and technology and wonder is got for less than a penny on the dollar of your taxes.

IAGLR and dozens of other scientific societies have united on a call to action urging Congress to prioritize the integrity and funding of scientific research. By investing in science, lawmakers can help safeguard our future and foster an informed citizenry. www.ucsusa.org/about/news/s...

Across the U.S., Sea Grant supports coastal, marine & Great Lakes communities through research, extension & education. It touches our lives in so many ways. 20 years ago, I arrived in DC to work on #science policy as a marine biologist & Knauss Fellow through the Maine Sea Grant under NOAA. /1

I worry that the focus on NOAA's weather predicting value is ignoring the millions of other ways NOAA researchers enrich communities and local economies. There are no oysters without NOAA. There are no blue crabs without NOAA. NOAA trains teachers. NOAA is the lifeblood of coastal communities.

They’re big, they’re hungry, and they’re already in waterways leading to the #GreatLakes. Meet #InvasiveCarp, four very disruptive species of fish – and learn what researchers, environmental managers, and the public are doing to keep them at bay. buff.ly/41uTBD6 #NISAW

NOAA's #GreatLakes Environmental Research Lab will be taking an "indefinite hiatus" from communications due to staff cuts. GLERL communicates critical weekly updates about the extent of harmful algal blooms in Lake Erie - like the one that left my hometown of Toledo without drinking water in 2014

A super exciting PhD position available in #peatland #biochemistry. Join @yijiao.bsky.social and me working with cutting edge #VOC cycling in peat. + nice colleagues @voltcenter.bsky.social + Copenhagen + competitive salary + good PhD program employment.ku.dk/phd/?show=16... Please repost!

Felt great to get out in the field for #winter #limnology #GreatLakes-wide sampling on Lake St. Clair yesterday with @nicolewagner.bsky.social as part of a @miseagrant.bsky.social funded project led by @tjvmajors.bsky.social. Just happened to be an all-women team. #womeninSTEM

These students rock! A great day sampling for @miseagrant.bsky.social funded Great Lakes Winter Grab on Lake Superior. MI Sea Grant work is critical to the health and understanding of our largest source of freshwater, and we are proud to do the science they support!

If your pond or lake turns green in the summer, this webinar is for you! Join us/state partners for "HABs 101: Prevention and Management," covering topics like septic systems, nutrient budgets, direct management options of HABs, and more. Register to join on April 2 at 6-8pm: https://buff.ly/4350vQI

NOAA is in the Trump administration's crosshairs. You know the important work they do, but may now know that It's the descendant of the Coast Survey, the nation's first scientific agency, founded in 1807 under Jefferson. I spoke with maritime historians to put NOAA's legacy in context. 🧪🦑🌎🐟

Beautiful landscapes abound. Enduring an afternoon outing on the east coast of Lake Superior. #greatlakes

Are you a #GreatLakes #InvasiveSpecies researcher who wants to contribute to #AIS knowedge in the region? The #GLANSIS team requests your expertise for our first Grand Review of species profiles and risk assessments! Please reach out to Program Manager Rochelle Sturtevant, and share w/ your network!

Why does #FederalFunding matter for the #GreatLakes region? Here are just some of the #CleanWater successes of the federally funded Great Lakes Restoration Initiative 🧵

Across the #GreatLakes region, an overwhelming majority agree: 96% of #GreatLakesH2OpinionPoll respondents think it is important (19%) or very important (77%) for governments to invest in Great Lakes protection. Read the full poll report from @ijcsharedwaters.bsky.social : https://buff.ly/4h0a3Qx

#NSF funded work with many colleagues in the#LakeErie watershed to reduce #HABs by making better models that rely on management practices farmers say they are actually willing to use (we asked!).

#NOAA #SeaGrant Programs help coastal towns develop sustainable economic plans, train fishermen and anglers on seafood safety, fund research (including fish diseases and HABs), train teachers & hold outreach sessions, and provide science based information to officials, managers, & the public.

Folks wanting updates from NSF, they just posted this: new.nsf.gov/executive-or... Stop work order for "conferences, trainings, workshops, considerations for staffing and participant selection, and any other grant activity that uses or promotes the use of DEIA principles and frameworks..."

Excited to see our work on #HABs in Grand Lake (OH) get featured in a Lake Scientist Research brief! Looking at impacts of ice and nutrient loads on microcystin, using nitrogen turnover rates to more accurately predict MC concentrations. www.lakescientist.com/research-bri...

Our RFP is out! Send us your funding proposals for awesome research projects that generate data, create tools, or build partnerships to fulfill critical needs and illuminate challenging coastal/Great Lakes issues in Michigan: https://buff.ly/40MeSaS @mullenbach.bsky.social @newelllab.bsky.social

I just told my husband (@jeremyjohnparker.bsky.social) the odds for the current NSF grant proposal I'm writing. His response: "Are you addicted to gambling?!"

Thank you all for your continued support of the Great Lakes!
