To my friends who say, "Oh my god, that's amazing, I could never do that though!", I say, give it a try, it's incredible how liberating it feels.

I know what I do makes no difference for Amazon and it takes a little more work but it feels good, when I have so little control over the madness in the world, to at least align my spending with my values.

But I looked back at my purchase history from the last four months versus the same time period last year, and I realize how much junk I ordered that we didn't need, and how much I could have bought elsewhere online and supported other businesses, or bought in person and supported local shops.

It made me think about the small part I played in creating this oligarch who is helping to erode our democracy. It's been an interesting, multi-faceted journey that has surprisingly involved more than a little introspection.

The upside — if there could be one right now — was being around these smart, passionate people who cared enough to take time off of work and their day to show up for democracy. If they can do it, so can our representatives who get paid to do it!

PS @nytimes.com I disagree with the partisan sidelining description of these groups as “progress activists”. These are deeply concerned citizens and patriots standing up for the Constitution in the face of moral abdication by our elected leaders.

We need you to do everything you can to oppose the Trump/Musk coup. Use every parliamentary tool you have! Oppose every nominee! Shut down the Senate! And don’t stonewall your constituents. We need you to fight like our democracy depends on it — because it does!
