Especially if you've never watched a sea anemone NOPE out of an interaction with a starfish: trust me, you want to watch this video.

A frog, for making it through Monday! #frog #herps #fern

Our resident #SalishSea Orcas, with another interesting behaviour, grooming each other with #kelp:

"Really? (Song Thrush)" drypoint etching by contemporary printmaker Faith Chevannes #ReframingWomenPrintmakers

A frog for those who need one. #herps #frogs #colocasia

Awesome new faculty job -- the University of British Columbia is looking for a senior ecosystem scientist to fill a new research chair position. geog.ubc.ca/job-opportun...

An enormous lichen on a purple leaf plum tree. It was three handspans long! #lichen #fungifriends

I'm fascinated by all the different porcupine quill-styles. I started out watching Nova Scotian porcupines, with short quills, whereas West Coast ones have long in front and short at the back. But all are same species! Is it based on different predators? Seasonality? I'm fascinated. #porcupine

My Mum's bearded Iris looking happy: bumblebee funrooms, complete with furry doormats.

Time to post more lichens. 1. Ramalina dilacerata 2. Tuckermanopsis platyphylla 3. Vulpicida canadensis 4. Ramalina farinacea (I believe) All near Spring Lake Road, 100 Mile House, BC. 🌿

Kelps as "a natural answer to ocean acidification because they devour carbon dioxide. Sensors...have shown that growing seaweed changes water chemistry enough to lower the levels of carbon dioxide in the immediate vicinity, nourishing nearby molluscs." Hopeful! a reason to protect wild #kelp too!

"Somehow, these barnacles were able to share the same crab without conflict, both being able to successfully grow and reproduce, their rootlets intertwined with each other as they tickled the host's brain stem and absorb the crab's lifeblood in harmony." Pleasing, enlightening, beautifully written🦀

This voyage would make an amazing children's picture book. I'm glad she's safe! Also, isn't her quill setup beautiful?

Nimble enough to hunt lemurs!

Clouds being especially linear today, there were great long, wide rows of them stretching across the sky, gently brushed sideways by the wind. I wonder why? #clouds #SalishSea

Delighted to be visited by a Pale Swallowtail (Papilio eurymedon) at work today! Usually I see Anise and Western Tiger Swallowtails: both lemon yellow with black stripes, but with different wing shapes. But pale ones are unusual! I love their fuzzy waistcoats. #butterflies #inverts #SalishSea

Fuchsia 'Whiteknights Cheeky' looking peppy in its new planting. The cheerful little hot pink flowers are a hummingbird favorite, and the foliage will darken to a pleasing burgundy as the summer sun intensifies. #bloomscrolling #plantnerds #fuchsia

Bee cathedral. I love the tummy-tickling pollen covered landing pad, as well. #iris #bloomscrolling

A noticeable number of Pacific Chorus frogs at work are flaunting copper and coral markings this year; they're very dapper (and yes I'd love to give them a bow tie). #herps #frogs #SalishSea
