I am not a 40K guy but this image definitely helps me Get It. The hand-painted models have a kind of Bakshiesque earthiness to them that really anchors the scene. Looks very cool!

i suspect they mainly see military AI as a potential excuse generator. as long as enough people are willing to believe the tech works, “AI selected the target” is decent PR for blowing up a preschool. makes no difference at all if the tech actually works. it justifies your carpet bombing

Depends on what constitutes a "B" movie exactly, but for me, anything outside the big studio system is easier to engage with as art. When I analyze the creative moves of a project where nobody expected a big payday, I automatically start looking for artistic motive rather than financial motive.

That, or they really earnestly are just going to keep insisting "i'm not owned! i'm not owned!" as they get hauled into open-air corncob camps. Not sure which is more degrading to witness.

These guys are honestly worse than the caricature of accelerationism that they decry. They aren't encouraging worse conditions to then seize power- they're just using Trump to punish a recalcitrant electorate. They're making us "smoke the whole pack" and they do NOT care what results.

ngl, this has gotten much sadder than I anticipated. I know it's summer but you should still talk to your school's counseling team.

It's basically no different from advertising. We can all find examples of individual ads that do not persuade us, do not help us, whose insufficiencies are naked to us- but all of us remain susceptible to advertising's effects, both its direct effects on us personally and its aggregate effects.

A key element is low discernment, which may be why the youth are more vulnerable. The easier it is to BS you, the more vulnerable you are to ChatGPT's mechanisms-- but the mechanisms are designed to be maximally manipulative; the shrewd move is total abstinence, to not get cocky that one's above it.

I was a little underwhelmed by Talk to Me but very pleased to see them level up with this one. The kids are clearly very talented, it's gonna be interesting to see how they develop in the coming years.

Anyway, late last night/early this AM, Boundless CEO Archna Sharma sends out a lengthy email which boils down to “lol soz we said we’d pay you but ACTUALLY Boundless doesn’t HAVE to pay you so we’re not going to pay ANY royalties owed to Unbound because we’re a different company now”

Unbound sent out royalty statements for the first half of 2024. Yay, I was owed about $5,000. This would be great. 30 days came and went, then 60. No money. No comms.
Finally Unbound are like “Whoops! No money, also we didn’t keep our author royalties in a separate account, we spent them. Soz!”

Seriously, FUCK Boundless.
Writers, do not publish with them.
Agents, do not submit to them.
Bookstores, do not carry their books.
Any company that thinks torching this many authors will result in being able to “continue publishing and rebuild trust” is delusional and deserves to die.

One kid called me retarded, then started crying after I texted him and he apologized. In the same class I got 3 thank-you cards, a fern, and a drawing of some kind of... muscle cat?

my job got hacked and lost my social security number a few years back and I keep thinking, "well, that's what I get for trying to seek honest employment."

I don't think most of those people are malicious, they're just cowards and nerds and have a huge cop in their head. The kind of person who doesn't understand why grey areas exist. It would be good if they stopped talking but I can't make them.
