Christ himself was a fleeing immigrant, fleeing Herod's rule. On the Sermon on the Mount he warned us about the rich and judgmental taking over our religion and using it for their own ends.
God literally turned people into a pillar of salt for being unwelcoming to strangers needing help.

The idea that safe havens exist at all is very misleading. The harder a community pushes to protect the individuals in it, the more hate groups do to destroy that safety. Look at Colorado and trans folks vs the recent violence against trans folks. Its really damn scary.
