I appreciate you and other actors that have made attempts to collect information and engage with so many people - I have friends in this industry and I learned so much myself from what you and others have posted because it's much bigger and nuanced than the few sides I've heard.

As for independent artists - it costs nothing to send a quick note and ask. Most independent artists are freely available on whatever social platforms and are more than happy to engage with their fan bases. Many of them reply with positivity and some even give specific numbers of reproductions.

If it's a well established series that is inherently anti-fan derivative, I personally would not make or sell anything related to them because I would not want to give them free publicity. If other fan artists would like to take that chance that's on them.

In that case I probably wouldn't buy something that was a remix or collage of the original artwork but if it used the same pose and colors in that fan artist style I would probably absolutely purchase it if it resonated strongly with me.

I think there's also an aspect of time - if it's something like a well established series from like the 90s then I'm a little bit more lenient when it comes to how close it might resemble the original art because many of those are lost or out of print pieces.

To me, the more established and transformative it is, the more I am okay with it. If the fan work is fully original and fan artist respects whatever consent the OC may have previously mentioned and they're willing to voluntarily pull items with a polite request from the OC then it's great.

I have had to adjust the way that I talk about pain levels with my care team - when I say my baseline is a 6/10 it's on me to describe "it always feels like my thighs are pinned against a wall by a car - not enough to break my bones - but to cause them to randomly scream and eventually tingle" /2
