Gene Buckle once said, "Some people collect things for a hobby. Geeks collect hobbies." That pretty much works as a description of me.

New comic: on the origins of Due Process, how fundamental it is to our very notion of freedom, and how we all must stand up for the rights for any one of us to preserve liberty for all of us. Alt-text, notes/process & printable version on my site, appreciate sharing spinweaveandcut.com/due-process/

Buried in the House bill: a provision to make administration officials way less answerable to the justice system. The Republicans are hell-bent on destroying the separation of powers, and the Constitution along with it. The bastards. Their vows to protect the Constitution now mark them as liars.

I introduced an amendment in the Judiciary Committee to try and stop Republicans' anti-immigrant bill from moving forward until Trump obeys the courts and returns wrongfully deported individuals, like Kilmar Abrego Garcia. Bring him home.

We should be investing in rural communities and making them better places to build a life & raise a family - not shutting down rural hospitals by choking off their funding. Saving rural hospitals is one more reason to call your Representative and speak out against this GOP attempt to cut Medicaid.

I'm incredibly glad to have Ms. Jayapal as my representative.

Inside Trump’s “Big Beautiful Bill”: Judicial Silencing (Sec. 80121(h)). This might be the most authoritarian section in the entire 1,100+ page bill.

Another thread showing what the once-proud Republican maggots are preparing to inflict on their own voters... along with all the rest of us, o'course.

How much destruction can those maggots do in one day? Well, here's a frightening little thread giving you an idea of _some_ of what they're trying today.

Well, _this_ is surreal. :)

"It is alarming that the administration would deploy law enforcement in response to something a faculty member says simply because their comments are uncomfortable or inconvenient." mailchi.mp/cucfa/statem...

Thanks for the clarification @merriam-webster.com!

So many videos are circulating of ICE agents acting with cruelty and aggression. Behavior that eerily mirrors the “domestic terrorism” they claim to oppose. No one is forcing them to act this way; it’s a choice.

Okay: unlike the rest of the news in the world, this sounds like it would be a ludicrous amount of fun. And you get costumes!

And now, a note on Bill Owens who, until this past week, was the executive producer of 60 Minutes. We’ll be back next week with another edition of 60 Minutes.

I made a silent puppet film about Godzilla vs. Paul Bunyan. (thank you to @iamchubbybunny.bsky.social for Japanese translations and @okaywolf.ink for clanky piano!!)

Who Else Loves Physics?

Read this for signs of hope.

Matt Davies cartoon.

Moral of the thread: Don't feed the crocodile hoping that, out of gratitude, it won't eat you too.

For no good reason, and happily unrelated to any politics whatsoever, I just need to put this into your newsfeed today. You're welcome. :)

The FBI is arresting Judges now? In Milwaukee, Judge Hannah Dugan reportedly used her chambers to shield someone from being taken by ICE. Multiple witnesses say ICE showed up to the courtroom without a warrant, and it’s still unclear if they ever had one.

NEW: Statement from attorney for Judge Dugan. "Hannah C. Dugan has committed herself to the rule of law and the principles of due process for her entire career as a lawyer and a judge. Judge Dugan will defend herself vigorously, and looks forward to being exonerated."

This thread from Judge Luttig shows pretty clearly what kind of trouble the country is in.

This is Bruno. Like many pups he is a working dog. But his job is barber. 13/10

Our cover this week.

It's a high bar, but this from @radleybalko.bsky.social might be one of the most fucked up things I've read in the new Trump era. For context, this TX lawyer had just had an informal conversation with a family caught up in ICE raids. Seriously. Read this. radleybalko.substack.com/p/the-courag...

I love dogs. They're so much easier to get along with than people. :)

It's so odd that Christian Nationalists are trying to stomp out *pretend* "anti-Christian bias" when their repudiation of everything Jesus ever said is the biggest example of *real* "anti-Christian bias" in the United States right now.

Brave "Warfighter" pounding his chest at a keyboard vs. Scared shitless "Warfighter" cowering in fear when "tourists" were strolling through the Capitol on Jan 6, 2021:

👉 👈 Meta announced that they're changing their models to reduce "left-leaning [political] bias"--that means leaning them to the political "right". Lots to unpack about what that might mean. So I ran a quick "shot in the dark" study...and found a *political right* bias in Meta models. Some notes.🧵

Previous to the FDA, folks would put chalk and plaster of Paris in milk to make it appear white. They could also add formaldehyde to cover the smell and taste of spoiled milk.

Sadly, the evidence suggests this now applies to Vance as well.

it's important this go as viral as the original story for morale purposes if nothing else. despite the image they project these people are NOT unaccountable. consequences CAN be forced. focused anger and outrage MATTERS.

Those damnable sons-of-bitches.

I had a horrible feeling food safety (and failures of food inspectors) was going to become an issue. And in slightly less than three months, here we are.

The only appropriate response to this is impeachment and removal from office. Every moment the political press spends spinning out theories about 2026 and immigration polling is a minute they are not spending asking Republicans in Congress about their plans to enforce the rule of law

oh my god

“We are all afraid. "It’s quite a statement. But we are in a time and a place where I certainly have not been here before. I’ll tell you, I’m oftentimes very anxious myself about using my voice, because retaliation is real." That's a _Republican_ U.S. Senator, for God's sake.

When those law firms who caved to Trump's extortion do the "pro bono" work they promised him, I hope with all my heart they send lawyers who can (by either natural or planned ineptitude and poor strategy) BUNGLE every case they argue for him and hand him a series of painful, difficult losses.

As the government flings itself apart, we will keep coming back to the grim reality. Trump can’t be restrained, or reasoned with, or babysat for the next four years. The only way to bring power back under the rule of law is to remove a lawless man from power. www.msnbc.com/opinion/msnb...
