I have been there and also I just want to mention that Cairo (a city I generally despise) has GREAT falafel, and a really clean metro!!! Much better than London in both those respects.

One of the saddest stories for me is Jack Wannop's sons. All four were in the military, eldest Joseph for some 30yrs, surviving a couple of wars, served in Boer, WW1. Then the youngest, Sidney, was killed in France in his early 20s after less than 2yrs, his body never recovered.

Ooh interesting, I hadn't heard of him but will have a read! I mostly research 1880s boxers, many had sons born in the 1880s-90s who fought in WW1. Many deaths. Frank Slavin was in the trenches in his mid 50s too! His only son, Frank Jnr killed in battle.

I didn't even know about it - not sure if any of my seniors at the British Science Association or Science Festival did. Would have loved to have gone!

Mostly really cool. Erm, not so sure about the captions on the busty 16yr olds entering the Miss Luton Arndale competition in the '80s... π«’ Different times, eh.

Noooo. I'm sorry! That's awful.
My dad kept hard copies of his clippings in the early days of his career (late 1960s/early 70s), but gave up for the remaining 40+ years lol - it's been so fun to find them now digitised on the British Newspaper Archive. What will future historians even have left!!??

Nothing comes between me, Essex Michael BublΓ©, balcony wines and a good time, damnit! π
In seriousness, it really did make me angry. It's such a family event, needed more now than ever. Especially HERE! And he's spreading misinformation about debauchery etc to get people to turn against it. Sad.

In hindsight, wish I'd gone for Cheers instead of a Regards.

Like many bigots, he didn't include a name on it and only has a generic email address for responses. But people out on the balconies saw him delivering the letters this morning and recognised him. He literally lives opposite. And is FAR more antisocial than an afternoon of Abba, Queen and Steps π€·π»ββοΈπ

If it was MY garden I'd definitely be on a pants only lunchbreak right now with a packet of marker pens and packet of Jaffa Cakes. Alas, not sure my elderly parents need to see it.

Exactly. I wouldn't even need paying.

He also had an absolute breakdown because I wouldn't let him type my emails when his other option was biscuits and running around a garden naked?!

My mum should NOT have let me see those early Eugene Tooms episodes when I was 7. Scarred/scared for life π See also: the doc in ER who got his arm cut off by helicopter.

Ooh so interesting! Bailey doesn't ring any bells with me, but I mostly look at Black boxers active in 1880s London rather than US, if he was boxing in the US at that time I might not know him. The Black cyclist/pugilist @cycologies.com & I have been tweeting about recently is Albert Pearce :)

He's got quite the eye!
I'm 100% on jaunty black or similar berets in winter for many years now but what on earth is appropriate at our age and stature in summer??? I'm not quite Joan Collins in St Tropez yet, although would like to be.

Mate I am 5ft 11 and spent two years in wrestling school. I can kick large men in the face.
Might need a few practice sessions and an hour of stretching first these days, sure...
