Veterans' #quilt blocks. This is 6 of the total 18. They need big triangle shaped sides too, to be on point and space them. I cut most of the other blocks today and started assembly. I'm very slow. Some of that is some mail order fabrics didn't look right or quantities too small. #quiltsky

Rescued #rose bush. Friend dug it from grass & brambles 9 Mar (pic 2). I pruned, removed bad top wood + bad roots. Planted fairly deep, kept watered, gave diluted ~10:10:10. Mid Apr, pic 3. I cut off above the growing buds, more ~10:10:10. 3 rd photo, now. NoID. 🌱 #gardening #frugal #tlc

Some cherries off the tree and strawberries off the plants. Espalier apple tree has a guest. 🌱 #gardening

"Sharlene Fantasy White" African Violet started blooming for the first time. #AfricanViolet

The first blossoms on hybrid tea rose, "New Day". Nice lemon yellow flowers. I bought this as a bate root plant from a big grocery store chain. There is a little arachnid helping to keep insects controlled. 🌱 #gardening #roses #spiders

Lava rock garden with container plants and a few others. Geraniums, sempervivums, sedums. We live not too far from Mt. St Helens, so I imagine the lava rock is from there. Avoiding bark and arborist chip mulches to be wildfire wise 🌱 #garden #wildfiremitigation

From the garden. Juicy garlic scapes and crunchy snowpeas. I have strawberries too, but I keep eating them before I can take a picture. Also soaking bean seeds a few hours before planting them. 🌱 #garden

I removed the previous AI avatar for one that shows the real guy (me) and faithful sidekick. The more AI that I see, the more I don't care for it.

Rose with first flowers, grown from a cutting. @john121974.bsky.social‬ identified as Mme Boll / Compte de Chambord. Highly fragrant. More than English roses. I took this cutting Dec 2013. I should remove buds so it sends energy to new growth. But tempting to let it bloom. #roses #gardening 🌱

Rufus had a little visitor today. I don't know his name - "Bruno" or "Butch" or "Bob" or something. From down the road somewhere. He just wanders here now and then. (I would never let Rufus do that 😳) I call him "Sparky". They seem to like each other quite a lot. #dogsky #dogs

First six (of planned 36) Ohio Star batik blocks. I had to buy the red separately, not part of the original bundle. The white-on-white background squares have their own pattern, won't show much when quilted. I will use up what I've already cut, then back to the veteran quilt. #quiltsky #quilting

Salsa / Sauce tomato plants are looking pretty good for end of May. Roma II VF from home saved seeds. Drip irrigation under the cardboard, cardboard mulch for weeds, moisture preservation, and disease control. 🌱 #gardening

Trying to keep a few strawberries for us. So far, it's about equal, birds:humans.

First blossom on "Munstead Wood", a #DavidAustinRose that I planted in April. Richly fragrant. Slightly deeper color than Darcey Bussell but much more fragrance. It will need more time to develop as a bush. So far, really nice. 🌱 #Bloomscrolling #containergardening #accessiblegardening

"Rufus! Do you want to go for a walk?" #dogsky #Rufus

The window next to my work table. I think the blue #AfricanViolet is an Optimara - from grocery store. The red one is "Ma's Stewed Tomato" from HC Nursery. I THINK the far right is "Sharlene Fantasy White". Also variegated "White Camellia" from ETSY, and a grocery store orchid. 🌱 #indoorgarden

First blossom this year for David Austin rose "Vanessa Bell". Pale yellow, rich tea rose fragrance. I moved it into a portable container last winter. Vanessa Bell was Virginia Woolf's sister. She had quite an amazing life. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vanessa... 🌱 #Bloomscrolling #Roses

Bumblebees loving St. John's Wort (Hypericum perforatum). Sometimes used as an herbal remedy for depression - maybe it makes them happy πŸ˜€. #Beeforage #Bumblebees 🌱

Practice blocks for the Veteran's quilt. I used very inexpensive, colorful, batik fat quarters from an online retailer (not THAT one). Practice helps me get things better, but now I'm beginning to like these. I thought about making some wall art, but now I think... a quilt. #quiltsky #quilting

Some container - grown David Austin roses, showing the whole plant. I was reluctant to prune some of them too much during the winter. They might be less floppy now if I was more aggressive. Darcy Bussell, Bring Me Sunshine, and Boscobel. 🌱 #Roses #Bloomscrolling #gardening #accessiblegardening

Another tiny movie of bumblebee and honeybees foraging Ceanothus pollen and nectar. The entire hedge is buzzing. I can't get enough of watching and listening. 🌱 #gardening #beeforage
