And it wouldn’t make me so angry but it’s getting to the point where people are straight up vilifying a female creator for this movie and her own personal take and opinion and SATIRE/COMMENTARY ON SOCIETY but they don’t actually understand it and to that point THEY DIDN’T EVEN PAY TO SEE IT

Is this was ChatGPT is doing to the kids???? making them not even bother to engage with the media they’re talking about AT ALL but then speaking so FUCKING CONFIDENTLY about it?!? what the FUCKKKKKKK

‪Of course that’s what it is!!!! It’s the same thing about people just jumping on the willful misinterpretation of the end of the lilo and stitch remake and then coming to find out a bunch of those people DIDN’T EVEN SEE IT AND THEREFORE COULDN’T FORM THEIR OWN NUANCED OPINION‬

It’s really, really bad. There was initially a critique I saw about the use of a plot element that I personally didn’t have an issue with but I can see (to an extent) bumping up against but the devolvement of it being “get back with your ex” or “poor man” “propaganda” is just missing the point

And sorry I’m out here spoiling the movie point blank but at this point I feel like there are so many people not understanding the basic text that maybe I don’t mind if people see this so that they understand what happens in the movie?!?

But just to say “well he didn’t want to improve his own situation” is just not only incorrect based on what the film is showing us but is also the exact kind of un-empathetic way people act toward people stuck in a bad situation and it really pisses me off

But god forbid a person struggle economically in the world to do the thing they are passionate about. Some people don’t choose that path and then get stuck in careers they hate but a lot of people DO and then are fucking broke!! And it SUCKS

Frustrated with his position in life. And it’s not that he is purely for the sake to get Lucy back, it’s because we have those scenes with him living with those two roommates who are gross and disrespecting HIM and HIS SPACE and he seems genuinely frustrated by it

Today the thing I was was someone firmly stating that Chris Evan’s character wasn’t interested in improving his own situation for himself. As if that’s something incredibly easy for a person struggling through their career, alone, to do. And as if we don’t see him trying and also

Part of what I enjoy about Bluesky is that you have people trying to be funny and people with no sense of humor trying to coexist in the same place.

Anyways shout out to The Film Bros pod (which I just discovered clips of on TikTok and don’t really even know who they are) but they are literally breaking it down for ppl and while some just are NOT getting it in the comments they are at least trying t.co/9ZjpnTiuN3

People are criticizing Dakota Johnson’s character’s actions earlier in the film (one example being subletting her apartment for only a week) as being an insane thing to do and therefore a problem with the film No….That’s not … she’s a /materialist/… that is the POINT OF THE MO- [gunshot]
comment in response to post
I can understand not really caring for the performances or the script or it’s not your cup of tea but I actually think that people do not know what the word “Materialist” is and I think that’s the thing I’m struggling the most with right now

I’m also so baffled by the idea that anyone went into that film expecting her to end up with [spoiler?’s] character based on the trailer alone. Have you never watched a movie ever? I seriously don’t even know what to do with the things I’m reading. Baby, that’s storytelling 101
