I looped by the Pentagon to 66 to scoot around The parkway and, oddly, the Pentagon had none of the performative excess of security I saw in DC.

I haven’t seen DC so shut down since 9/12/2001, except now with more police cars tearing around, some bizarre closures of roads and core Metro hubs, and ridiculous quantities of military hardware.
It has the classic look of any national capital just after a coup.

People think this way in the south. They don't like change. They stick to a script while the world around them continues to evolve and get mad about the distance between where they choose to stay and where the rest of society is.
