Brilliant

Short Answer: Yes. Longer answer: lets call it the quadruple whammy. TL;DR: 1/4 #AI hogs natural resources (energy, water, rare earth minerals) and adds massively to GHG emissions. It is a #collapse trigger. 2/4 Subletting your brain to a computer model is bad. If you don’t use it, you lose it.

🌊🧪Methane-powered sea spiders lads. Living in permanent darkness, in a symbiotic relationship with metanotrophic bacteria - chemosynthesizers. How cool are these?

Developing critical thinking is incompatible with co-opting large language models ('AI') to 'assist' in all facets of teaching and learning. Critical thinking is essential to the path to a sustainable existence we need to thread. Join the dots👇💯

What we normalize becomes invisible. Lessons from history 👇

It's not 'biomethane', lads, #2. #Ireland, take a look 👇 and follow thread by @profbobhowarth.bsky.social and @kevinjkircher.com.

It's not 'biomethane' lads. 👇🧪🌡️

Coming soon to a cinema near you #Ireland. I am told it's all for the greater good though. Education, you know, lads? 🤡

War as an instrument of distraction. War as a self-perpetuating machine. But maybe I am being too cynical. The experts in the media 👇 are speaking about 'a window of opportunity', 'very interesting that' etc etc....

🚲 SUVs are better killers of pedestrians and cyclists. #cycling

#Ireland, have a go, lads. 👇🧪🌊 We might have to change our plans to bank on beach season.

Yes👌let's keep it up

Red herring alert, a prime example of the #DarkArts. Let's see what's wrong, lads. a) Trump administration did massively well for the planet during its first iteration ✅ b) Fails to list the first thing we should do to restore coral reefs: stop using fossil fuels ✅ Pure obfuscation. 🌊🧪

Seems pertinent to reiterate.

Hi, pardon me, hello: mass protest in the face of fascism is a great idea and in fact the only thing that works to actually combat it. anyone saying otherwise is an idiot. sorry, i cannot anymore with this shit. do the fucking reading!

🌊🧪No. Brings a lot of money to some people though.

#Cycling 'lanes' in #Dublin.

I am not sure we are actually realising what's happening across the pond and how this might affect our future. This is post 33 Germany. The Reich, but in American. Lots are sleeping, should wake up.

Happy World Ocean Day! The ocean is the heart of our life support system, without which we'd all be dead. It's taken up >90% of the heat from global warming and 25% of our CO₂ emissions. In return, we give it 11 million tonnes of plastic annually, which animals ingest and also become entangled in.

TCD @tcddublin.bsky.social has its good points. For all the flak it gets in #Ireland, I wonder how many other universities have the balls and the students that primed this to match.

It's not Karma, lads. It's just the Universe. Conspiring.

Crazy isn't it? Maybe these Marine Protected Areas are not protected at all? One wonders what we are doing lads....

Great article on how a German court has ruled that private companies can be held liable for their share in causing climate damages. It's the polluter pays principle, and as such should be a no-brainer. But the fossil fuel industry has so far thought to be exempt. theconversation.com/one-lawsuit-...

When everything is a transaction, have a 'life-changing' two pennies for your meat for the meat grinder. Talk about dystopian futures. It's dystopian presents I worry about.

Jacques Yves Cousteau called it 'the world of silence'. The ocean is the mother of all life and a source of peace and wisdom for all those that live it. Let's listen to its voice. #WorldEnvironmentDay #Freediving

This year we are seeing marine heatwaves swamping the North Atlantic. Again. It's going to be a scorching 🥵 summer, lads.

Out today in Nature, our paper on the drivers of the record 2023 summer heating of the North Atlantic. Temperatures warmed to record levels in just a few months. The impacts on climate & ecosystems were severe. A thread on how this work came about and what we found.👇👇🧵 www.nature.com/articles/s41...

Important for #Ireland. More evidence that the cooling 'blob' south of Greenland is caused by an #AMOC slowdown. The collapse of the #AMOC will impact on everything we do, from food production to housing, healthcare to logistics. This is the real existential crisis unfolding, lads. Let's address it.

'Ireland not prepared for extreme weather risks due to become 'catastrophic' '. @codohertynews.bsky.social highlights the problem gently. The reality is nobody is prepared, we are taking the piss and tinkering around the edges. The magnitude of what is unfolding should have us all in emergency mode.

Influencer's advice to cure autism. We have descended into absolute ignorance.

Uh oh lads. 'No increase in emissions' or 'small increase in emissions' compared to a baseline of choice is not the same as reducing emissions. You can't get credit for increasing methane emissions by less than could be possible...

Collapse of the #WAIS is one of the #tipping points in the Earth system in imminent danger of being crossed. A very narrow window to act: accelerate the energy transition, keep fossil fuels in the ground. Aim for circularity. Prepare the youngest for a different world.

Nearly 40% of the world’s glaciers are already doomed, scientists say

Playing Dungeons & Dragons with the family on a lazy bank holiday weekend Monday is my definition of peace and bliss.

"History tells us that there are times when the dangers of inaction become sufficiently threatening to individuals or the planet that scientists who are able and willing to do so will have to enter the public arena ... This is such a time." www.nature.com/articles/s41...

"Groundwater loss is global crisis. Aquifers take centuries to recharge, but we’ve drained them in a single human lifetime." (Lyle Lewis) #collapse
